The Best Trends from NYFW Spring 2022
Power moves were made.

New York Fashion Week might just be the most anticipated event in the fashion industry next to the Met Gala, of course. With world-renowned designers from Carolina Herrera to Marc Jacobs returning to the runway, it’s no wonder why these events gain so much traction from the media each year.
Every season, trends arise from these shows to remind us that fashion is constantly evolving. Here are some notable trends that have emerged from this season’s NYFW:
Cape Town
Forget your regular old-fashioned coats—this year we’re wearing capes. But seriously, with every stride you take, catching the attention of everyone around you, capes are the ultimate power move. As seen on the runway, you can wear it as a cover over an evening dress or simply to feel like the Dark Knight. Either way, it’s hard to resist feeling like a powerful vigilante ready to take on the night.
Blaze it
From feeling like an off-duty supermodel to acing your job interview, blazers are essential no matter the occasion. They were super popular last fall and have stuck around for another season. No complaints though—who doesn’t want to feel like Cindy Crawford stepping out of a casting call?
Space-Dyed Knits
Knits have always been a staple, especially in the wintertime. However, this season has shown us knits don’t necessarily have to look like they came out of your grandma’s closet. Space-dying is a technique used to give knits a multi-color effect, and it certainly is an upgrade from the plain cable knit sweater we all own and love. You can be stylish and warm with a colorful knit dress!
Crochet Bae
Similarily to knits, crochet requires precise detailing done by diligently stitching yarn together. As a result, you get a beautiful pattern that can’t be machine replicated. Anything crotchet is so chic and immediately elevates your outfit. From this season’s runway, we saw a lot of crochet pieces that ranged from muted tones to fun pops of color that have the ability to add richness to whatever you’re wearing.
Monotone Vibrancy
If you want to feel like a boss, monochrome is the way to go. This fashion week, Sergio Hudson presented an abundance of monochrome and incorporated vibrant splashes of color with his pantsuits and gowns. It’s no wonder his pieces are worn by leading ladies Kamala Harris and Beyonce—a good monochrome moment screams “I’m in charge.”
This year’s NYFW did not disappoint. From major fashion powerhouses to small debuting designers, this year’s fashion offered something for everyone. Let’s remember that fashion is a means of self-expression where there are no set boundaries.
