EXECUTIVE STAFF

  • The Design Director — preferably a student in Newhouse or VPA (i.e. Comm Design) — leads weekly meetings for digital and print designers, sets firm deadlines for design drafts and is responsible for designing the overall print issue. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is required.

  • The Digital Director updates staff pages and uploads photoshoot pictures, videos, articles and launch photos to the website. This role also involves collaborating with the Design Director and Managing Director to maintain the UGirl brand through website formatting.

  • The External Director plans and executes print launches, contacts venues, assists in fundraising events, works with the Treasurer for budgeting and reaches out to printers to make arrangements for print copies.

  • The Hair & Makeup Director collaborates with the Lead Stylist, Creative Director and the Editor-in-Chief to plan looks for photoshoots and leads the hair and makeup team.

  • The TikTok Director works closely with the Instagram Director to curate content, directs the TikTok team and plans and schedules posts. This role also collects content submissions from team members, attends photoshoots to shoot behind the scenes footage and accepts members for the TikTok team.

  • The Instagram Director works closely with the TikTok Director to curate content, manages the Instagram team and plans and schedules feed posts & stories. This role also works with the Design Director to create social media graphics, attends photoshoots to shoot behind the scenes footage and accepts members for the Instagram team.

  • The Lead Stylist creates mood boards and builds wardrobes for each photoshoot with the Creative Directors. This role also helps plan outfits, hair and makeup for each photoshoot.

  • The Managing Digital Editor oversees all digital section editors, answers their questions and ensures articles are website-ready by making any final edits.

  • The Photography Director photographs and edits all digital and print photoshoots, works with the Creative Directors to understand the vision and aesthetic of each shoot and photographs executive staff headshots.

  • The PR Director acquires PR products for use at tabling events throughout the semester and at launch. This role involves assisting with launch in collaboration with the External Director, as well as reaching out to other campus organizations and local businesses to hold fundraising events. This role also collaborates with the Social Media Director and Managing Director to uphold the presence & image of University Girl.

  • The Treasurer — preferably a Whitman student (i.e. Finance major) manages all financial aspects of the organization, creates fundraising opportunities, tracks spending, requests budgets for events and purchases, attends fiscal meetings and communicates with RSO.

  • The DEI Director ensures the presence and growth of diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the organization. This role also manages and supports staff relations, fostering cohesion between executive board members and general staff. Additionally, the DEI Director is responsible for connecting with UGirl alumni to coordinate UGirl Chats — educational sessions where former members share insights into the fashion, beauty and editorial industries with current staff.

  • The Creative Director works with the Editor-in-Chief to plan and direct all photoshoots. This role involves creating mood boards for each photoshoot in collaboration with Lead Stylists.

  • The Video Director captures video content that showcases the organization’s work and culture, filming highlight reels at photoshoots, recording fundraising events and attending additional events alongside executive staff when video coverage is needed.

  • The Editor-in-Chief leads the entire UGirl staff and is responsible for guiding the vision of both print and digital content. This role runs general body meetings, executive board meetings and print-specific editorial meetings. Finally, the Editor-in-Chief oversees the planning and execution of photoshoots and handles the hiring of new staff members.

  • The Managing Copy Editor assists the Editor-in-Chief in planning print spreads, helps approve pitches for print, edits first and final drafts and reminds print writers of deadlines.

  • The Copy Editor assists in editing print articles and reports under the Managing Copy Editor.

GENERAL STAFF & MODELS

  • Digital Writers pitch and write articles for our website on topics including Style, Pop Culture, In the News, Feel Good, College Life and Sex & Relationships. This role also works with other digital writers to collaborate on articles and with digital editors to perfect work.

  • Print Writers pitch and write articles for our bi-annual print issue. This role also works with other print writers to collaborate on articles and with copy editors to perfect work.

  • Digital Graphic Designers create graphics for digital articles on our website. This role primarily uses Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator while working under the Design Director.

  • Print Graphic Designers create graphics for print articles in our bi-annual print issue. This role primarily uses Adobe Illustrator & InDesign and works under the Design Director.

  • Instagram

    This role creates posts based on the content schedule and assists with story posts, graphics and behind-the-scenes media for launches while working under the Instagram Director.

    TikTok

    This role creates content based on trends and assists with content from photoshoots and launches while working under the TikTok Director.

  • Digital Editors edit and perfect articles for a section on our website, including Style, Pop Culture, In the News, Feel Good, College Life and Sex & Relationships.

  • Hair & Makeup Artists attend digital & print photoshoots and work with models to make them camera-ready. This role reports under the Hair & Makeup Director.

  • Models model for digital and print photoshoots. Models are featured on our website and in the bi-annual print issue.
