Nail Trends You Need to Hop On Now

Because a basic French manicure is far too cliché.

by RHEA SRIVASTAVA ★ FEBRUARY 3, 2022

Doing something creative with your nails is a fun and easy way to make a fashion statement. You can play around with different colors, designs, textures, and lengths anytime and however often you like. When we are overwhelmed at the salon, we often turn to the classics, which can get old, quickly. So, here’s a guide to the latest nail trends that you need to hop on now!

Funky French

This year, expect unexpected twists on the basic French manicure, so next time you’re feeling French, skip the basic white. Instead, try adding two or three layers of color at the tips or using different colors for each finger. Another fun idea is to use a color other than a basic nude or pink as your base.

3D Designs

Ever since the new season of Euphoria has started coming out, gems and jewels have been all the rage. If you can use them on your eyes, why not on your nails? Adding statement gems might be the only exception to getting a basic French mani. And if you're going for the bling, channel your inner Cassie and go all out.

Mix & Match

You have five fingers for a reason… who says they all need to have the same color?! Mixing and matching colors has become an extremely popular trend. You can go all out and pick totally different colors for each nail, or you can pick different shades from the same color family and create a fun ombré effect!

Pretty in Pastels

As the highly-anticipated Spring weather slowly creeps in, so do the powdery pastel colors that come with it. Some of my favorite pastels are a light lavender, a muted green, or a soft pink.

Flower Power

Floral prints on nails are the epitome of Spring and are showing up everywhere. The easiest way to pull off this look is to use fun nail stickers over a simple base color. Painting them on results in a more abstract effect, but make sure you go somewhere good if you choose this option.

Green Thumb

Green isn’t just for your thumb anymore; it’s for all your fingers! A trend starting late last year, shades of green continue into 2022 as all the rage, especially when it comes to nails.

Shades of Blue

I know I said green is the rage, but blue is becoming a major moment! In just this past month, soft blues have been the color to wear, so why not wear it on your nails!? Get ready to see this nail trend popping up everywhere in the new year.

Retro Swirls

Simple swirls are a great way to turn basic nails into a fun fashion statement. However, if you choose to get them, make sure you go to a nail salon you know will do them right. Nothing is worse than showing your nail tech a cute picture and leaving the salon with multi-colored blobs all over your nails.

Next time you head to the nail salon, show one of the pictures above to your nail tech! I honestly love each of these designs and would definitely get all of them if I had the time (or the money!). So, let me live vicariously through you and go get pampered!

P.S. My absolute favorite nail salon in Syracuse is BV Nails and Lounge in Dewitt! It recently opened in 2020 and has an amazing wine bar that you should seriously take advantage of during your pedicure. Every nail tech does a superb job, and they have all the tools to give you any design you desire. You seriously can’t go wrong!
