The Year of the Tiger, the Year of Fashion
We are roaring over the 2022 Chinese New Year fashion collections.

The Lunar New Year is one of the most celebrated holidays in Chinese culture and 2022 brings us the Year of the Tiger. From decking out your entire house in campy red decorations to watching your grandma give the cousin you actually can't stand three more red envelopes than she gave you, the new year is a time to welcome new beginnings and sweep away the past. No matter how many boozy gatherings we have to attend with our family, we always need to make time to check out the anticipated fashion collections of this Lunar New Year.
To no surprise, the fashion industry had its eyes on the tiger and nailed its capsule for the season. No one's wallet is safe. From Gucci taking us back to the 1960s, to Yves Saint Laurent's yearning for natural wilderness, to Dior's soft watercolor palette, we can't get enough.
Gucci:
The Gucci collection brought to life the concept of time and duration, helping us understand how fashion is quite possibly the only thing that can withstand time. Gucci interweaved an archival tiger design dating back to the late 1960s by the iconic illustrator who designed Gucci's signature Flora motif, Vittorio Accornero. Referring back to history gives every piece a sense of depth that is impossible to compete with. Half of the collection features a floral background and Accoornero's tiger. The other half features a bold collegiate varsity logo, "Gucci Tiger," giving the collection a modern twist.
Yves Saint Laurent:
The Yves Saint Laurent collection is everything I didn’t know I needed. It's wild, it's earthy, it's silly, it's what we've always wanted in a Chinese New Year collection. This line especially caught my attention because it strayed away from the traditional bold colors that every designer typically uses. It's exactly what we needed in the midst of all the red and glitter shouting in our faces. YSL designed this collection to pinpoint a tiger's true form in the wilderness, and they understood the assignment. As much as they shift away from loud colors, they still incorporate the holiday spirit by featuring a cartoon tiger on their sweaters. There is no doubt that this collection will capture the hearts of many fashion lovers.
Dior:
Finally, the Dior collection. This is the collection of my dreams. Navy, cobalt, and powdery blue are colors that run deep in the blood of Chinese culture because of their rich connection to history. It is no shock to see many ancient Chinese paintings and pottery featuring these core colors. Dior designers Kim Jones and Kenny Scharf flawlessly incorporated these meaningful colors into their Chinese New Year collection. The hand-painted details and the intricate designs will bring this Dior collection to the spotlight.
As much as we hate to see the festivities fade away, the roaring energy will undoubtedly accompany us this upcoming year, bringing us all the luck and charms. But, for now, it's time to shop till we drop!
