Spring 2022 Fashion Trends

The days are getting longer and the skirts are getting shorter.

By now, I think we’ve all realized that fashion’s response to the pandemic is maximalism. Bold cuts and bright colors have been so prominent both on and off the runway, and this spring is no different. Y2K is still super prevalent, however, the 1960s influences are hard to ignore (hello mini skirts and crochet!). So, if you’re sick of cold weather—and the same pair of gray sweatpants—keep reading for the most popular spring 2022 trends.

Micro-Mini Skirts With Coordinating Blazers

This look was practically unavoidable on the runway this year and is first for a reason– mini skirts are always a fun and flirty way to spice up any outfit, but adding a blazer makes the look SO MUCH BETTER. It’s the perfect combo of ultra-feminine and ultra-masculine. This look is Clueless meets Y2K, and it’s flawless. I.AM.GIA and edikted have a lot of great pieces for all of your mini skirt needs. Complete the look (and show off your legs) with some stilettos. Or dress it down with some knee-high boots– it’ll look amazing either way.

Bra Tops

Remember that episode of Hannah Montana where she wears her bra on top of her shirt? This isn’t that. Now it’s socially acceptable to wear your underwear as outerwear– honestly, at this point, why not. This statement look has been seen on the runway numerous times already– Tom Ford, Fendi, and Jonathan Simkhai paired the bras with tailored blazers and trousers, playing into the mix of masculine and feminine silhouettes. You could also throw on some low-waisted baggy jeans for a more casual going-out look.

Colored Oversized Coats

Swap your neutral trench coat for something a bit more exciting. Bold colors seem to be taking the place of pastels this spring, so don’t be afraid to rock a statement coat. There are so many ways to style a fun piece like this, too– you could go for a monochromatic look or play around with other bright colors. ASOS has some great options.

Cut-Outs

Cut-outs are such a great way to make even the most basic piece more interesting. This trend is also super versatile– pants and tops with cut-outs are amazing ways to incorporate the trend into your closet. Michael Kors and Supriya Lele, to name a few, showcased black gowns with unique cuts. A maxi dress that shows some skin is a great option for spring break, too. Complete the look with a slicked-back ponytail or bun and some killer heels. Check out Reformation for some similar looks.

All-White

It’s clean and elegant– and we are so here for it. On the runway, the all-white look was commonly showcased as business attire, which would be an amazing outfit for an internship interview! You could also throw on some white jeans with a crisp button-down shirt and some white sneakers. Any way you decide to go about this trend, it will look super sophisticated.

Crochet

Mini skirts and crochet?? The 1960s are back and better than ever. Crochet pieces are such a great way to add more summer to your closet. You could pair a crochet crop top with bell-bottom jeans or a mini skirt for an effortlessly retro look. Zara and Revolve have some super cute crochet crop tops that are perfect for lounging on the beach (spring break literally can’t come faster).

Hopefully, this article gave you some much-needed serotonin. Spring (and warmer weather) is just around the corner, so start thinking about all the ways to incorporate color and fun silhouettes into your closet!
