Making Your Eyes Pop With Color: A Beginners Guide

How to add a little (or a lot) of color to your everyday makeup looks.

Adding a pop of color to any makeup look can spice up your outfit (...and spice up your life!). Experimenting with makeup can be somewhat intimidating at first, but you definitely don't need to be Doja Cat to rock these looks. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

Minimalist Color

Let's start simple with a minimalist look that can add a little pop of color to your eyes. Take any small brush and apply the color of your choice to your inner corners. This look requires little effort but could definitely take your look a long way. If you are feeling frisky, you can add a little design or wing, or do a multicolor minimalist look by lining your upper or lower lash line. Easy enough, right?

Colored Mascara

Colored mascara is totally underrated because it’s able to completely elevate your look without complicating your routine. You can purchase colored mascara at any drug store, or you can DIY it at home. To do this, wet your makeup brush, dip it in the color of your choice, then generously coat your lashes like you would with any mascara. It may take a few rounds of application to get your lashes fully coated but it's totally worth it to get a fun and unexpected look. OMG! Like how easy is that?!

Shimmer Over Everything

Shimmery and glittery looks are probably the easiest looks out there that can really make your eyes pop. For this look, it's all hands-on. Swipe your finger through any glittery eyeshadow and apply it to your lid starting from your inner corner and move outwards to coat your whole lid (You can even pack it onto your lid for a more saturated look!). Also, combining colors and grains of glitter adds just the right amount of dimension to your look. To make your life even easier, purchase a liquid glitter shadow that can be applied directly to your lid to guarantee minimal fallout. Or keep the fallout, that's cool too!

A Little Bedazzle Goes a Long Way

For an easy and whimsical look, bedazzle your eyes! You can purchase a sheet of stick-on rhinestones and have fun with the placement. This look requires minimal effort but gives the most eccentric results. To achieve looks like these, place rhinestones near your inner corner and brow bone, and use the high points of your face as guidelines. You can even scatter them towards your temples for an extra fun and euphoric look. Alexa Demie, is that you?!

Monochrome

Monochrome is all the rage! Working with one color is perfect for beginners because when in doubt, blend. Start with a base color, such as light pink, and apply it all over your lid. Then work in darker shades in your crease and blend, blend, blend. With this look, the more you blend, the more cohesive your look will be. Next, apply this color to your lower lash line. To finish the look, you can apply shimmer to your lid and inner corner. If you are feeling frisky, you can also add colored mascara to your lashes to complete the look.

Colored Highlight

Color is not just for the eyes. Colored highlights are another easy way to incorporate more color into your makeup routine. To achieve this look, you can apply a shimmery eye shadow to the high points of your face for a subtle but surprising result. You can even match the shimmer you used on your lid to your highlight.

Match Your Lips to Your Eyes

For those who love a good lip, matching your eyeshadow and lip color is the perfect way to tie in a look. You can do this with any of the looks mentioned before, and pair it with a glossy, glittery, or matte lip. One hack to make sure the colors are a perfect match is to use lip liner to line your eyes or lipstick on your lids for that glossy wet look and apply this same color to your lips.

Whether you are a makeup whiz or a beginner, the possibilities are endless to make your makeup pop. Color can seem intimidating at times, but the key to all these looks is to have fun with it! Now, go, experiment, and be the showstopper you know you are!
