The Reemergence of UGGs

Our comfy slippers are suddenly becoming trendy streetwear shoes and I’m here for it (and you should be too!!)

The slipper brand we all know and love is making a comeback. As we gear up for the fall season and the fast-approaching chill of winter, we are seeing UGGs appear more and more on the feet of celebrities, models, and influencers everywhere. UGGs have gone in and out of style. Their trend statistics show us that they are either in or out, and this year they are definitely in!

UGGs were some of the hottest shoes back in the early 2000s (10-year-old me would sport my tall fuzzy boots during the winter and, on occasion, do the iconic “roll down” of them if I was getting too hot). Even though those days are gone and UGGS haven't been trending for many years, they for sure are now, and in a newer, better style too.

Models such as Elsa Hosk, a fashion icon (or at least mine), started this trend by wearing UGGs out in NYC one day in early October. Elsa paired them with a casual yet stylish cream-colored pair of jeans, a white t-shirt, a grey blazer, and of course a designer handbag and some brown sunnies. She made one of the biggest statements of the season by showing off her “at home slipper” in a new light, styled with a nice outfit, being worn around the city (not as slippers). Cue the reemergence of UGG slippers as going out shoes (thanks to Ms. Hosk herself).

From then on, celebrities followed by wearing the same UGGS or other similar ones out. Elsa wore the UGG Tazz Mules, although model Kendall Jenner prefers the UGG Classic Ultra Mini Ankle Boot. Kendall has been seen wearing UGGs with casual outfits such as a sweatshirt and leggings, an outfit we all can easily recreate.

Regardless of how you style your UGGs, this is the time to start wearing them out and about. It’s also the perfect time to invest and pick a style that best fits you if you don't have a pair. They are multi versatile, as you can wear them as house slippers or shoes you can dress up to run your daily errands, go to class, or anything in between. If you are still debating they are 100% worth the investment!

Even though UGGs are making a huge comeback and could possibly be the current “it” shoe for fall, many people are not liking this new rebirthing of UGGs and would like to keep the trend back in the 2000s with low rise jeans and skinny scarfs. Some influencers on TikTok have been commenting on Elsa’s look, criticizing it, and not wanting to embrace the trend. Although, most people on social media have been intrigued by UGGs and have praised the celebrities helping to bring them back.

As athleisure continues to be the ideal choice of daily, casual fashion, UGGs have been able to make their way back into popular culture. Slowly over the years, we have been seeing people wear them more often, but this season they exploded over social media with celebrities leading the way for others to copy looks like theirs. This season, we are bringing back a taste of the early 2000s, while taking athleisure to the next level (and of course staying chic and cozy while doing it!) Don't forget to pick up a pair, or start wearing your fuzzy slippers out and about before winter rolls in!
