Okay, I’ll say it: I want to be Matilda Derjf. From her cute dog to her die-for outfits and delicious Instagram-worthy food, her life is a huge Pinterest board. Matilda is the epitome of a confident, chic, and effortless look. What makes her sense of style and look so special is the simplicity of it all. We often get so caught up in fast fashion trends that we forget less can sometimes be more, that the simplest pieces can be some of the most fashionable. Scandinavian style is clean, effortless, and timeless, a look everyone wants to achieve. So whether you are throwing something on before class or getting ready for a night out with the girls, here are some staple pieces you will need to create your dreamy Scandinavian wardrobe.
Tailored Pants
Tailored pants will make any outfit look more sophisticated and put together. They don’t have to be just for a formal look. Throwing on a plain white shirt or a simple tank with a pair of loose-fitted tailored pants can really dress any look down. Matilda wears tailored pants all the time, sometimes pairing them with a matching blazer or a simple cropped shirt and button-up for a breezy daytime look.
Oversized Shirts
An oversized, structured shirt is the answer to all your fashion emergencies. Pair it with comfy, loose-fitting pants for a fresh clean look. An oversized button-up always looks pulled together and clean. Whether you are running late to class or have an interview to prepare for, the oversized, buttoned shirt is a wardrobe staple. Just throwing it makes it look like you really took the time to get ready in the morning (even if you actually snooze your alarm 5 times that morning).
Chunky Oversized Sweaters
As we are gearing up towards the fall and winter months, an oversized sweater is essential. This practical yet cute option is the perfect top to throw on and layer with. You can pair it with your favorite pair of jeans and sneakers for a cute casual outfit for class. Matilda wears a lot of chunky knits throughout the year, ranging in color and texture. Having a fun texture or light pastel color is a fun way to play into trends while still being classic and refined in your style.
The Blazer
Nothing screams girl boss more than a classic blazer. This is one of Matilda’s staple pieces. Not only do you look like a boss babe, but a blazer carries you through upcoming job interviews, dinners with the girls after work, or huge pitch meetings. It can vary from oversized to tailored and fitted. The classic blazer is a fall staple you can get pretty much anywhere. A plain-colored blazer is sophisticated and classy, but you can also be bold and pick a colorful blazer instead.
Classic Mini Skirt
If you aren’t feeling like putting on pants today (we have all been there), a classic mini skirt is a great stylish alternative. Although we are entering fall, you can still make a mini skirt work in different ways. Stay warm by pairing it with an oversized sweater, tights, and chunky statement boots. You can branch out here into different colors of mini skirts that are fun and trendy!
Scandinavian style is all about being effortlessly put together. It’s the ultimate cool-girl fashion trend. These classic pieces will last in your wardrobe for years and never go out of style. Matilda is able to reinvent fashion all the time, while still staying true to her sense of style. She is able to create new fun looks that everyone wants to wear. The main takeaway from Matilda, and Scandinavian style in general, is that you can wear a piece several times in different ways and still be able to keep the piece interesting… and that is the definition of having style.
