How Rihanna is Reinventing Maternity Wear
The M.I.L.F of our generation.
by REBECCA CARR ★ MARCH 20, 2022
As I like to say, Rihanna is the newest baby mama of our generation, and pregnant or not, she never holds back when it comes to being a fashion icon. For years, maternity wear has been seen as frumpy or basic and has held stylish mothers back. But when it comes to Riri, her personal style gives her a pregnancy glow like no other.
Rihanna debuted her baby bump on Instagram on February 9th, 2022 covered with chains and jewels (as the queen should!). She also wore a loose pair of light wash jeans with a long pink coat and a casual half up half down hairstyle. Not only has everyone been obsessed with her fashion, but we are already in the works of imagining how cool the child of A$AP Rocky and Rihanna will be.
A$AP Rocky has been inspired by Rihanna’s sense of fashion in his song “Fashion Killa,” which was released in 2013 and Rihanna is the muse in his music video seen trying on different outfits in various luxury stores. The line we cannot get over is “She ball until she fall, that means she shop until she drop / And Versace, got a lot, but she may never wear it / But she save it so our babies will be flyer than their parents” A$AP basically manifested their relationship and the iconic fits that their future child will be wearing. We cannot deny that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are #couplegoals and I simply cannot get enough of the new parents as we see interviews with the two. A$AP is infatuated with his girlfriend and claiming that “I just never seen a female look so beautiful pregnant” and him stating how proud he is of Rihanna’s success and explaining how much respect and admiration he has for her through other various interviews.
Rihanna has always brought the glamor to everything she wears while being realistic with everything she says. As at a Fenty Beauty launch event, she was recorded saying “Yeah! I want a cheeseburger!” while showing off her baby bump in a sequin top with an open back, showing off her figure, and in sequin pants. Iconic, right? Although many pregnant mothers appreciate the comfort of traditional maternity wear, Rihanna shows that your style does not have to take away from your comfort. As always, putting the bad in badgalriri she has also been seen wearing a classic all-black outfit that has the twist of lacing up the front which has been one of her edgiest maternity looks that are still made of comfortable fabric.
Rihanna has not only become a figure of comfort and reliability with her witty humor, but she has become a role model for women with her fierce work ethic and ability to naturally be herself. Her maternity wear has shown that she is still dressing as herself, just with the baby bump included. Rihanna has also shown the growth she has overcome throughout the years in her relationships going from her abusive partnerships to a healthy relationship where she is admired and respected by her partner, as he wants to see her success grow as a black woman in the music and beauty industry.
