The IRL Drama Behind Euphoria Season 2
As if things aren't messy enough on screen.

Week after week, Euphoria delivers jaw-dropping drama that keeps us all hooked on the characters and their hectic lives. However, on-screen is not the only place for dramatic storylines in Euphoria. As the new season unfolded, the cast and crew revealed the behind-the-scenes tea that might just answer some of our most burning questions about the show. So, to make these Euphoria-free days more interesting, here is your insider scoop about the drama with Sam Levinson and the cast of Euphoria.
What happened to Kat?
Unlike the other characters who found new depth and complexity in season two, it’s pretty clear that Kat Hernandez went from a star to a sidekick. Kat was definitely a fan favorite, so this was pretty upsetting to watch. With such a captivating season one plotline, we can't help but wonder why the director would give her character the short end of the stick. The answer lies in the strained relationship between Barbie Ferreira and director Sam Levinson. Who would have thought? When filming began, Ferreira expressed her disapproval of how Levinson intended to portray Kat's character in season two. The actor and directors opposing views led to some pretty serious beef, with one incident even causing Ferreira to storm off set (yikes!). Unfortunately, their off-screen dispute led Levinson to reduce her screen time, leaving us with an underwhelming conclusion for this essential and culturally important character.
Why is everyone naked?
A central part of Cassie’s backstory is how her desire for validation often leads her to be objectified by the people around her. While this is central to the show, most of us would say that her nudity has crossed the line from symbolic to unsettling. In fact, Sydney Sweeney expressed this to Sam Levinson herself. There were several instances where she requested to cut nude scenes because even she couldn’t understand the relevance to her character. While Sweeney insists that she was never made to feel uncomfortable for asking to cut nude scenes, the fact that Levinson wanted her naked even more strikes most audiences as a biiiit of a red flag. Even worse, Sweeney is not the only actor who felt the nude scenes were excessive. Minka Kelly, the woman Maddy babysits for, revealed that her character was intended to serve as a role model for Maddy. Despite the intended dynamic, Kelly was initially supposed to be nude in the scene where Maddy helps with her dress, which likely would have undermined her role as guidance and stepped into some creepy territory.
What about Jules and Nate?
Even though it has yet to be confirmed, many fans and sources close to Euphoria have alleged a falling out between Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer. Look, we know better than to believe everything we hear; however, this rumor would certainly explain a lot about this season. With the content of season one, the exploration of Cal's character, the focus on the disc, and now, the unnerving dream sequence in the most recent episode, it seems strange that Nate and Jules' characters were definitely not more involved this season. While the supposed drama between the two already had people talking, Hunter unfollowing Jacob on Instagram seemed to provide confirmation. While the two follow each other now and have not mentioned anything negative about the other actor, their character's separation this season seems a bit too unusual just to be a creative choice.
The cult following for the show and its actors has quickly made Euphoria one of the most defining series of our generation. Though we want to believe we will be sleeping well this Sunday, we all know deep down that an hour is not enough to address all of the insanity that occurred this season. So now, as we prepare ourselves for the waiting and praying for a new season, all we can do is pray that the cast and crew can tolerate each other enough to bring us our answers next season.
