Hey everyone, UGirl here, and we have some juicy information we think you might want to know involving a very sexy, very British superhero. You guessed it: Andrew Garfield. As many of you were probably aware, the gorgeous Garfield just reunited with his superhero past once again to play Spider-Man in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. What you probably didn’t know, however, is that Garfield also made an appearance in the new movie Tick Tick Boom, actually, he was the lead.
Tick Tick Boom is not only the title of the film but also the title of a play written by Jonathon Larson (the main character played by Garfield) back in 1990. Larson is most widely known for his play Rent that was on Broadway for 12 years. Overall, the film was amazing, full of love, heartbreak, friendship, but most importantly Garfield singing and playing the piano, quite beautifully we might add. Plus, it’s free on Netflix (you’re welcome).
Now, let us just repeat that ICYMI…Andrew Garfield, the tall, dark, and handsome friendly neighborhood Spider-Man can SING AND PLAY THE PIANO. Who knew?! Now, if that doesn’t make you fall even more in love with him, then we can’t be friends.
When Lin-Manuel Miranda (the director of Tick Tick Boom) first reached out to Garfield about the film, he asked him if he could sing, and although Garfield had never sung in a film before, he spent the next year preparing to make sure his performance would not disappoint. The entire year leading up to filming, Garfield took singing and piano lessons and studied the real Jonathon Larson’s work (Classic FM).
Now a year might not seem like a long time at all, but as it turns out Garfield was already accustomed to the world of Broadway, having been in the Broadway show Angels in America. Yet another thing we bet you didn’t know about your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
As we’re sure many of you will agree once you watch Tick Tick Boom for yourself, Garfield is far from an amateur singer or piano player, in fact, it seems like he’s been doing both for years. How one teaches themselves to sing and play the piano in one year blows our minds, and apparently, it was extremely impressive to the Academy as well. Garfield has been nominated for Best Actor thanks to Tick Tick Boom and there are rumors he is going to win! *Cough cough* This is your reminder to tune in to the Oscars Sunday, March 27th at 8 p.m. EST if you want to see a very attractive, very talented Garfield possibly collect his first-ever Oscar.
Garfield isn’t the only friendly neighborhood Spider-Man that can sing either. The other very sexy, and very British Spider-Man can sing too and has also been on broadway. You guessed it: Tom Holland. We’re not sure where Marvel is finding all of these amazingly talented Spider-Mans who can sing and dance on top of acting, but there must be something in the air. Oh wait, Tobey Maguire can’t do either. Or can he?
