This Swim Silhouette is Taking Over the Summer — And It’s Not a Bikini

The one-piece is officially in again.

It’s 2013. Kendall Jenner tweets a bikini pic: color blocks, low cuts and a smooth black box. What is it? Triangl.

The Triangl bikini craze began. You open Instagram to see Hailey Baldwin, Bella Hadid and #trianglgirl, everywhere.  Bikinis went viral. Not just Triangl…but every kind.

Fast forward to VSCO girl summer. Vaya Island, Blackbough Swim and crochet bikinis ran social media. Triangl was still the it-brand, but the neoprene color block had a softer, floral look.

Now it's 2025, and oddly, the bikini isn’t the star anymore. Influencers are wearing a different swim style — one that's simpler and sleeker, but not as suitable for tan lines.

The one-piece is back.

But why?

First, let's talk about how they are totally flattering. We forgot how one-pieces can actually be sexy. Let’s drop the old stereotype that they’re for overly chlorinated pools and swim races. With plunging necklines, high cuts and bold cutouts, we don't need a bikini to show some skin.

Then, there's comfort. One-pieces give us more coverage, without sacrificing style. That extra security keeps us stress-free during any activity. Who wants to be worried about adjusting their swimsuit on the tube? Not me.

Finally, they’re versatile. One-pieces aren’t just for the pool. Throw on jeans, skirts or pants and you’ve got that summer look.

One-pieces have been out of the spotlight for so long that swimsuit brands don't even sell one-piece suits — and if they do, there’s about four options.

So, I dug around and found some suits that deserve a spot in your summer cart.

For the plunge

Plunge into the pool with suits that flatter the girls and boost your confidence. Gooseberry’s iconic one-piece is all about the deep dive and strong support. For a narrow dip, try Maaji’s reversible Safri or Tiky suit.

For the texture

There’s something about that lightweight, ruched texture that gets us in the summertime. Its stretch, support and comfort keeps us cool and fresh. I love the Montce Jacelyn suit in ribbed fabric, and I’m obsessed with all of J.Crew’s new collection — but the Claudia one-piece really nails it.

For the two-tone

We love a two-tone moment. The contrast looks amazing in photos and enhances our curves in the best places. Try the LSpace Raquel suit for a cute cutout and a cool neckline, and you'll avoid all speedo allegations. If you want more support, get the Lovers and Friends’ Cordelia suit. Underwire lift and a bold two-tone? Yes.

For the prints

Nothing turns heads like a few show-stopping prints. WeWoreWhat’s Scoop suit gives us that New England summer vibe, especially with a navy accent. Also, halterneck styles, like LA DoubleJ’s Printed Halterneck and the Tularosa Bridgette suit will come with some jaw-drops.

For the staple summer white

Finally, the classic white suit. If worn right, it will be sure to fit your European summer itinerary. Check out the Maygel Coronel Pilaya suit to get the best of all worlds. With its deep plunge, iconic appliquéd detail and perfect color, you’ll be a show-stopper overseas.
