It’s Never Too Early To Start Thinking About Halloween Costumes

Spooky season starts in September. We don’t make the rules.

If you’re anything like me (I’m guessing you are if you’re reading this article) you go hard for Halloween. As you should, it is simply the best holiday. What’s more fun than playing dress-up for three nights in a row? The answer is nothing– nothing is better than that. Below, you’ll find a list that ticks all the boxes. There are group costumes, solo costumes, duo costumes, basic costumes, and niche costumes. Let’s get into it (yay Halloween!).

Barbie (and Oppenheimer)

Sorry, I had to…also, if you think this is too basic, you missed the point of the movie. I want to see hundreds of Barbies out on the town. I want to hear you all saying “Hi Barbie” all. night. long. AND if you want to turn it into a couple/duo costume, one of you can be Oppenheimer. All you need is a fedora and a pinstripe suit.

Joan of Arc

Picking a favorite costume on this list would be like picking a favorite child. But I don’t have kids, so I can say that this is my favorite. If someone doesn’t do this, I’m going to be heartbroken. You can find everything you need on Amazon– a silver chainmail top, matching skirt, and sword–you have to do the sword. Joan is notorious for her bob, but you def don’t have to chop your hair off. Complete the look with a chainmail headpiece, and you’re all set.

Batman and Catwoman

This one is hot (and iconic) no matter which version you go with. Here, we’re channeling Zoë Kravitz and Robert Pattinson from the 2022 Batman movie. You’re going to need a red wig, black corset, and leather shorts. For Batman, just slap a bunch of eyeliner on your bf’s (or costume buddy’s) face, and voilà.

Marie Antoinette

Another fav and one I keep seeing! If you’re looking for something a little extra you need to do this. You’ll need a white corset/bustier, ruffle skirt (the more dramatic, the better), and lace stockings. Again, if you’re into excess, this is a great opportunity to play around– tease that hair and cake on the blush…no pun intended.

A Cinderella Story Angels

I think of this as an elevated version of the Plastics from Mean Girls. It’s pink and Y2K, but a little more niche, you know? All you need is two friends, a lot of pink pleather, and fluffy angel wings.

Suki: Fast and Furious

Devon Aoki is a style icon always, and these pink leather chaps prove it. This idea pops up every time I fall down the Pinterest black hole of Halloween costumes, and I love it– it’s super easy, too. Everything you need (especially those sick pants) are on Amazon.

Peaky Blinders

This is great if you’re trying to coordinate with a bigger group because we’re not really talking about specific characters here, just the vibes of the show. The essentials: newsboy caps, lace stockings, tweed blazers, and vests. I also don’t think these looks are complete without squirt guns filled with champagne…

Nichole Richie and Paris Hilton

Live love The Simple Life. This is perfect for besties who want to be a little funny. Deck yourselves out in denim, grab a pitchfork (and maybe a stuffed chicken?), and hit the town.

Elvira Hancock and Tony Montana: Scarface

If you and your bf are looking for something that is instantly recognizable, this is it. Devon Windsor did this a few years ago, and she looked amazing. You’ll need a silk teal slip dress and a platinum wig. Your Tony Montana needs a white suit and a red button-down– make sure the chest hair is visible!

Maxine: X

Last, but never least, Maxine from X. This was one of my favorite horror movies of 2022, and I need to see a ton of Mia Goths running around this Halloween. For this look, you need a red bandana, denim overalls, and bright blue eyeshadow. It’s badass, easy, and comfortable. The holy trinity.

The. End. I hope this list got your creative juices flowing…get excited, get planning, and get shopping. Spooky season starts now.
