The Adidas Addiction

The addiction is real.

by STELLA RINGBLOM ★ APRIL 20, 2023

The Adidas trend started thanks to Harry Styles, who regained popularity last year. As part of his concert outfits, he paired his outfits with a pair of Adidas. These were not just the regular Adidas Gazelles but the Adidas x Gucci Gazelles. The Gucci and Adidas collab was released in June of 2022, and as part of the collection, the brand made a few of their versions of the Gazelles. This triggered the Adidas addiction among his fans and eventually rubbed off on the rest of the population. However, it wasn’t until the beginning of this year that I started seeing people wear them religiously.

I remember seeing the light pink and blue platform Gazelles worn by influencer Paige Lorenze, and loving them, but I thought these shoes won’t become trendy enough to buy right now. Flash forward a few months, and I learned the hard way that those shoes are sold out pretty much everywhere, and if I want to buy a pair, I’ll have to pay at least $300. It makes me feel extra upset that I used to own a bright red pair of Gazelles, but I got rid of them not long ago because I never wore them. As a little treat, I decided to purchase the light blue Gazelles, which was one of my better decisions. I wear them almost daily and get so many compliments whenever I wear them.

Since the Gazelles are pretty much the only shoes people wear these days, I thought adding some outfit inspiration in this article would be beneficial. There are many ways to style these shoes, especially since the sneakers come in many color combinations. My favorite way of wearing them is with baggy jeans and a tight bodysuit or crop top. I usually opt for regular denim and a plain-colored top, so I love adding the bright blue Gazelles. They elevate the outfit and make it less “boring.” In addition to wearing the Gazelles with jeans, I have seen others wear the platform ones with a mini dress. Going back to Paige Lorenze: her boyfriend plays professional tennis, and she wore these shoes to one of his matches with a white mini dress, which ultimately influenced me to pull the trigger and get myself a pair. That outfit showed that I could wear the shoes with anything, making the purchase worth it.

I already feel tempted to buy another pair, considering I wear them often, but I’m doing my best to hold off. I own a ridiculous amount of sneakers, which is why I tried to avoid this trend, but because the Gazelles were trendy at some point and have now made the comeback of 2023, I thought it wasn’t a want but a need. If you feel influenced to buy these sneakers after reading this article, you can find them on the Adidas website, Goat, and Farfetch. I’m sure other places sell them too, but I have seen most versions of the shoes on those websites. Hope you find your perfect pair!
