Sweaters for Forever

Gigi Hadid’s new cashmere knitwear is made for life.

Gifted by her parents for her first year of college, a warm sweater for the cold NYC winter, inspired Gigi Hadid’s new cashmere knitwear brand, Guest In Residence. That same sweater, given in the early stages of her career, is still in Gigi’s life today. Mimicking this, she wanted to prioritize longevity and quality with her own designs, allowing her clothing to one day make a spot in your future children’s closet. When buying Guest In Residence, you are buying future heirlooms that will last a lifetime—something you can give your kids when they make that first big move to the city.

Gigi’s line has everything—and I mean everything—from socks, shirts, hats, and robes. It has comfy knit joggers and sweaters to watch Love Island in and polo tees and turtlenecks to dress up and strut the town in. The whole collection—men, women, and accessories—ranges from $95-$745; good quality doesn’t come cheap. So, why should I splurge on it? The 100% cashmere clothing is made with long fibers and sourced from inner Mongolia. If you’re not a cashmere expert,—like most of us—long fibers are of the highest quality (the thinner and longer, the better). This provides the soft feel we all love to touch and doesn’t make your skin itch. If you’ve ever worn cashmere that doesn’t make you feel like you’re laying in a cloud, chances are it’s short-haired and not 100%.

When I first heard Gigi was coming out with a product, I immediately sighed in annoyance. Another makeup product, another skincare line, another clothing brand… another cash grab. Nowadays, celebrities seem to be releasing products left and right with no real purpose; Kylie Jenner releases a new makeup collection once a month, and does anyone even use Kylie Cosmetics anymore? It’s obvious that makeup and skincare lines are profitable and trending, so it makes sense for a celebrity to slap their name on a product to make some pocket change that they don’t need. Do they think about the consequences after the trends have died? No. That’s why when I heard Gigi’s new product was different from lipstick or a vitamin gummy (yes, I’m referencing Kourtney Kardashian’s new Lemme vitamins), I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. Instead of purchasing something that will be sitting in my bottom makeup drawer by the end of next year, I’ll have something that will hang in my closet for years. Finally, a celebrity product that will last—and never go out of style.

Gigi knew what she was doing with Guest In Residence. I think if you are looking to build a capsule wardrobe with basic staple pieces that won’t go out of style, won’t wear and tear, and will last in your closet for a lifetime, then GIR should be your go-to place. The prices are no doubt expensive for the majority, but if you are willing to buy one piece that can go with everything, then it’s a practical choice; you won’t have to re-buy knits every season… for the rest of your life.

Big props to Miss Hadid for Guest In Residence. A never-seen-before business venture that will no doubt be seen and loved by many.
