Beises Loaded

Introducing big-girl Vera Bradley.

by LINDSEY LU ★ AUGUST 8, 2022

I just know I’m not the only one who still owns that quintessential paisley print duffel from Vera Bradley—that in-your-face bright purple bag that I got for my ninth birthday and flaunted at my first sleepover. But as I packed that same Vera Bradley duffle for a frat formal this year, I knew that I had to give up my first love and upgrade.

Actress Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars and You recently launched her innovative travel brand BEIS (pronounced like base) in 2018. Her designs are not only creative and functional but give total Parisian chic vibes. Most items come in neutral colors so they match everything and radiate maturity.

Let’s compare the iconic Vera Bradley duffle to Beis’ duffle, iconic Weekender Bag. Mitchell’s Weekender Bag retails for $98, while the Vera Bradley Large Travel Duffel varies from $120 to $155 (that difference!!!!). They are nearly the same size, yet the BEIS has so much more functionality besides having a lot of pockets inside. The bottom of the bag is a separate compartment for shoes so it doesn’t get the rest of your things dirty. There is a trolley pass through strap on the back of the duffel, so it doesn’t slide when on top of your suitcase (please let us avoid the embarrassment of walking down your dorm hill with a falling over duffel). It also comes in a smaller version ($88), which is great for one night or a busy day where you need wardrobe changes. I mean, no one explains it better than Shay herself.

Next up is the Terry Towel Tote. This three-in-one towel, tote bag, and pillow is everything I’ve ever needed and more. It retails for $78 and comes in the classic nude and a neon citron color. Who doesn’t want to lay on the beach with a pillow? This bag is a little larger than the Weekender so it will fit all of your beach essentials. You could also use this tote as your travel bag and use the towel as a blanket to take a quick nap.

Okay, traveling. I know I’m not the only one that ended up wearing three layers of sweatpants around the terminal because my bag was twenty pounds overweight. Mitchell’s suitcases are sleek and functional, right down to a built-in weight indicator that turns red if your luggage is over fifty pounds and stays clear if you’re under. Where has this been all my life?!

Finally, the Beis Terry Backpack Cooler is a must-have if you’re planning on going abroad, going to the beach, or going on a picnic. It's super versatile: a two-in-one bag that conveniently cools and stores all of your belongings together. I never would have thought of my sunscreen and sandwiches being in the same bag, but it works!

This brand is so innovative and creative that you’re left thinking, “Why didn’t I come up with this?” You can conveniently purchase BEIS products online and in stores at Nordstrom. The brand even has different lines for different needs such as Beis Baby and Beis Pet Collection.

Thank you, Shay Mitchell!
