Bold Trends That We're Working Up the Courage to Pull Off

I WILL wear a long denim skirt and not look like a kindergarten teacher.

By now, it’s pretty obvious that maximalism is in, and it’s here to stay. Bright colors, bold prints, and wild textures have become increasingly common--on and off the runway. For most of us, this sounds terrifying. Yes, I see you reading this in your all-black outfit literally cringing at the thought of wearing anything else. I get it. Playing it safe is totally ideal. But it’s the start of a new school year, which means working up the courage to try new things. Even if those new things involve head-to-toe sequins. At first glance, these trends might be labeled as too adventurous or terribly unfashionable, but I’m here to tell you that there is no such thing. You can pull anything off if you set your mind to it. So, it’s time to whip out that long denim skirt and make a statement.

Long Denim Skirts
Y2K fashion really is the gift that keeps on giving. Butterfly clips, low-rise jeans, and now… this: the long denim skirt. On its own, it’s definitely giving kindergarten teachers chic. But paired with a form-fitting crop top and cute black boots, this look is absolutely adorable. Plus, it’s a perfect transition piece for fall--add an oversized trench coat and a chunky knit sweater and you’re good to go. Check out Zara and Madewell for all of your denim needs.

Sequin Sets

I have been seeing sequin sets everywhere recently, and it makes me so happy. I promise it’s not just the sparkles talking. They are the definition of fun and eye-catching, and give off total girl boss vibes (but not in a cheugy way). Who wouldn’t want to feel like they’re playing dress-up? Blazers are super trendy this fall, so don’t be afraid to rock a sequin suit set. You’ll feel like Gatsby. Only better. Revolve, Free People, Amazon, and Zara have amazing sequin sets. If you’re not into head to toe sequins (which is very understandable), tone down the look by pairing a sequin blazer with a pair of light wash jeans.

Chunky Rubber Boots

Will you look like a cartoon duck if you wear these? Maybe! But you’ll look like a hot, stylish duck, so it’s a win-win. I’ve seen these boots styled so many different ways, but I think they look amazing paired with a color coordinated oversized blazer or as a pop of color with a cute LBD. They get bonus points for being super durable when you inevitably have to trek through 3 feet of snow! Check out Steve Madden, ASOS, and Pretty Little Thing for similar styles.

Sheer Bodysuits

Sheer bodysuits: terrifying, sexy, or intriguing? Try all of the above. Sheer bodysuits demand attention and leave little to the imagination, which is why it’s perfect for a night out. I.AM.GIA, Amazon, and Dolls Kill have some super cute and flattering bodysuits. Pair it with strappy heels and statement jewelry for added ~drama.~  You can totally add a more full coverage top or bottom if you’re not comfortable with a completely sheer outfit.

Fashion can be scary, but that’s what makes it a fun form of self-expression. Take risks and push yourself to try new things-- you’ll look cute and feel amazing. At the end of the day, confidence is what makes your outfit look 10x hotter, so rock that sheer bodysuit and rubber boots and show people how bold you truly are.
