Your Fall 2020 Lookbook
Get used to seeing a lot of 70s inspired garments, plaids, and leather.

And just like that, the dog days of summer are slowly disappearing and cooler weather is progressively approaching (to my dismay). However, the fall season always brings about the best new styles, and you’re definitely going to want to get your hands on these trends. As much as I am in denial, the time has come to store your favorite bikinis and hardly-there tops for some oversized and colorful pieces, and here is a bit of inspiration to help!
The 70s Revived
The iconic style of the 70s has dominated both the runway and the streets. Usually, we’ve seen the revival of disco or bohemian looks; but this season designers are exploring a new side of the decade: structured suits. These perfectly tailored pieces have been the muse of so many designers and are often seen in both muted and bright colors such as chocolate brown, marigold, and blue.
Cottage Core
The term “cottage core” has been bouncing around the internet and social media all summer and nearly every fashion brand has hopped on to channeling the aesthetic. This newly popular trend embodies billowy, loose-fitting tops and bottoms, and chunky cable knit sweaters—ideal for baking bread or growing a garden. As the weather grows colder, it’s the perfect style to transition into fall.
Preppy Plaids
The preppy school girl style has become a huge trend this year. We are seeing a shift from pleated mini skirts to tartan inspired knitwear and sweaters. The tartan patterns, which are derived from western Scotland, have been sported on the runway in bright and muted patterns alike.
Leather Overload
The leather jacket is an iconic staple that so many of us have in our wardrobe, and it is no surprise leather is yet again dominating the runway this fall season. In previous seasons, designers added a twist to the classic piece by showcasing them in bold colors. This year, designers are embracing the jacket’s roots and taking heavy black leather to the extreme. We are seeing models covered head-to-toe in jet-black leather, all the way from thick tailored trench coats to oversized bomber-style jackets, leather boots, and even handbags.
Geometric Patterns
2020 has been the year of bright colors and over-the-top prints, whether it be large florals or meticulous animal prints. Piggybacking off the similar eccentric trend, we have seen an overwhelming amount of geometric patterns on the runway this season. Geometric prints that look as though they belong in a museum are being plastered all over mini skirts, trousers, coats, and blouses. If you love making a bold statement with your outfit, this trend is for you.
Exaggerated Knitwear
Sweaters are no stranger to the fall season. Naturally, as the days grow colder, sweaters are the go-to when wanting to keep warm without sacrificing style. Some designers merely tweaked the traditional sweater by exaggerating its “chunkiness” and oversized nature. Others are taking “sweater weather” to the extreme by exaggerating proportions, eccentric patterns, or adding an unusual sleeve.
This season’s collections have made a huge statement, to say the least. Some of these trends may come off as intimidating for everyday outfits (especially when going to classes), but incorporating just a few bits into your wardrobe is an easy and fun way to make your style more exciting!
