Shopping for Athleisure Apparel on a College Budget

Making you and your wallet look good!

by ABBY FRANK ★ OCTOBER 14, 2020

With new trends rolling in every month, money can get pretty tight, especially on a college budget. One trend that has become a staple in almost everyone’s wardrobe is athleisure. Athleisure brings an athletic and comfortable mindset to your everyday clothing and is widely considered the “model off duty” look. Most of the well-known athleisure brands such as Lululemon, Athleta, and Alo Yoga, make it difficult to shop on a budget, with many of their leggings costing upwards of $98. Thankfully though, there are many clothing brands with more affordable options that have similar (if not the same) quality as higher-end brands. Here’s our guide to the best athleisure-wear on a college budget!

Aerie

Aerie is known to promote body positivity and therefore provides a wide range of sizes in their apparel, making their clothing comfortable for a wide variety of body types. Aerie sells mostly athleisure apparel as well as undergarments, and has a wide variety of legging styles. Their activewear is recognized for its great fit and quality at half the price of many brands.

SET ACTIVE

SET ACTIVE is a completely woman-run brand out of Los Angeles that’s known for blurring the lines between workout clothing and loungewear. Their reasonable prices are made even more affordable by exceptional sales! They also sell matching sets that are comparable in price to a single pair of leggings at Lululemon.

H&M, Forever 21, and Target

H&M, Forever 21, and Target are some of the most affordable retail-based options for athleisure-wear. Most of the options at these stores place a greater focus on comfort than durability, but their prices are unbeatable!

Thrifting

Thrifting is the most budget-friendly way to buy athleisure apparel! As we’ve seen on social media, oversized sweatshirts, tees and biker shorts are big trends right now, and your local thrift store is the best place to find them! You can also be creative by cropping, customizing, and even bleach-dying your findings—thanks quarantine!
