We all laugh daily, whether it’s at jokes or someone else’s laughter, and at anything we find funny. But laughter is more than the giggles and smiles we share. It has a unique power. The ability to heal and make us the best, most confident versions of ourselves. Which is exactly what we girls need. Transitioning through every stage in life as a female is not always easy. We have our ups and downs. However, always remember that there is joy in every step of life, and the easiest way to feel it is through laughter. Not only do we feel happier, but we also gain many internal benefits that one may not realise. Once you learn the wonders that laughter does for us, you will forget about doctors, medicines, and maybe even the gym!

Here is a breakdown of how all the giggles and smiles affect us. So girls take notes and make sure that the laugh echoes!

  1. Emotional Wellness

We all already know that laughter releases our pleasure hormones, making us feel happy while reducing our stress and anxiety, but did you know that it promotes emotional resilience? Throughout our lives, we go through highs and lows, but what defines us is coming out of every situation stronger and happier than before. This is emotional resilience. It has been proven that laughing through adversities helps one see things from different angles, reducing emotions of pain and sadness. This is often the reason why many psychologists use humour as a strategy when working with clients, as it helps them open up and steer them away from negative feelings. So the next time you are feeling low or facing a challenge, remember that it’s not the end and there is a way to feel better. Include some humour to open up your brain to see things differently and feel positive.

Apart from improving your mood, laughter also has real effects on your body. Did you know that when you laugh, your muscles contract, functioning like a mini core workout? This is because belly laughs work your abdominal muscles in the same way that a core workout would. So remember every time you laugh, you get a no-effort core workout, like Zara Larsson! Another physical benefit to laughter is that it increases blood flow, ultimately boosting heart health and increasing antibodies, improving one's immunity. So say bye-bye to doctor visits and hello to laughter!

  2. Physical Wellness

A funny joke, a moment of nervousness, a shared memory or someone else’s contagious laughter. It cracks us up even though we are not necessarily a part of the moment. This is the power of laughter. No matter where you're from or who you are, it connects people beyond the English language, with no translation needed. Laughter strengthens bonds between people, from strangers to eye-watering madness. The beauty of many relationships is the laughs shared between them.

  3. Social Aspect

The Healing Power of Laughter!

If there is one thing that AI can’t replicate, it’s the true joy that comes from belly laughing with your best friends. There is nothing like people laughing or making others laugh and having contagious laughter. Plus, there are several benefits to real laughter that humans need.

As girls, we all have different experiences. College life and our life ahead of us are so different to what we've been exposed to. There is no doubt that we won’t come across things we don’t necessarily like; it’s a part of life. It’s what helps us grow. The act of laughter may not reduce the emotions that come with these experiences, but it can change how we carry them. It can help us with our balance, resilience, and reconnection with joy. The power of a sound, the power of laughter, is much more than we know. Not all medicines are found in a bottle.
