As UGirls with busy schedules and tight budgets, sometimes the most difficult problem is one that no amount of dry shampoo can solve- overcoming a bad hair day. Waking up early for your summer internship or job is not easy, especially when you realize your perfectly straightened hair is not so straight anymore come morning. Sometimes the best you can salvage is a messy top knot, but even that can take 20 minutes to ace.

Stop telling yourself split ends, frizzy hair and dry scalps can be compensated with a killer outfit. It’s time to treat yourself to a good hair day with three simple ingredients straight out of your kitchen. Instead of buying expensive products, opt for a homemade hair mask that can be made in less than five minutes.

Step 1

  • In a small container, mix 1 teaspoon (about half of a regular spoon) of olive oil, and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.

  • Drizzle half a teaspoon of honey into the mix.

Step 2

  • Apply the mixture to the tips of your hair in a streaking motion.

  • Let the mask settle for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3

  • Thoroughly shampoo and conditioner hair as normal, making sure to scrub the ends thoroughly!

Pro tip: For a super dry and itchy scalp, dab a bit of apple cider vinegar onto your scalp before shampooing. The itch will be gone in no time.

Sometimes a little self-pampering is just the thing you need to get through a long week. But you may not always want to splurge on hair care products. In fact, nothing is more enticing than the hair products that line Sephora’s aisles except for the price. Learning how to “beauty on a budget” may be one of the most important lessons for UGirls. This treatment is a great start.
