Everyone knows the importance of a good night's sleep, but have you actually been getting it? First, remember what you can do on your own to increase your quality of sleep. An hour before bed make sure to turn off any bright lights and turn your phone on sleep mode. Fluorescent lights decrease melatonin and can make it harder to fall asleep. Still, sometimes, we all need that extra help to fall asleep. The following products are some of my favorites to help get a deep and beneficial sleep.
One of my favorite products are the Olly Sleep Gummies at $13 for a container of 20. These gummies are praised by those who have tried them. Taking two of the grape flavored gummies an hour before you go to bed makes it not only easy to fall asleep, but staying asleep much easier! Rated at 4 ½ stars, these gummies are a great investment for anyone who has trouble falling and staying asleep.
The “Calm” app has features such as meditation, sleep stories, and calming sounds. It is customizable to all of your preferences. Not only is it supposed to help you sleep better, but it can also help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence. While pricey at $69, most users rave about this app! Just remember when choosing this app, that you do have to stay engaged and dedicated to participating.
A humidifier is a great addition to your bedroom. Especially in Syracuse weather, it can be hard to keep your skin hydrated. Humidifiers can help reduce cold symptoms by relieving dryness in the nose and throat.
Sound machines are another thing found to be beneficial. If you are living in a loud dorm room or house, these can help drown out noise (helping you focus on getting to sleep). Sound machines create a relaxing environment, promoting deep sleep.
Another one of my personal favorite products is weighted blankets. These blankets are based on deep pressure therapy. It works by using the weight of the blanket to increase serotonin flow in the brain. Weighted blankets can help reduce anxiety and stress for a deeper night's sleep. These are especially beneficial to anyone with ADHD, anxiety, and autism.
Sleep spray, specifically “The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray” ($49, 4½ stars, available on Amazon), and “Little Moon Essentials Sleep Inspiring Mist” ($10, 4 stars, and also available on Amazon). These sprays have a calming scent and can help you not only fall asleep faster but have a deeper, more restful sleep. Just add a spritz on your pillow after a long day of classes and you are good to go!
Sleep tea is another helpful product. Its calming effects can help reduce anxiety and help you fall asleep. Chamomile is supposed to work well, but teas made specifically to sleep also exist. One that I found to be helpful is the “Sakara Sleep Tea.” It costs $20 for 20 tea bags and can be found on their website.
Whether you decide to try one or a combination of these products, you will notice the effects they have on your sleep and therefore productivity the next day.
