In 2011, a new band hit the scene. Created by singer Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, drummer Brandon Fried, and bassist Mikey Margott, the Neighbourhood, also known as the NBHD, hit the alternative rock scene and became the aesthetic for the 2010s. With hits such as "Sweater Weather" in 2013 and "Daddy Issues" in 2016, the band became an instant classic.

Their overall black-and-silver aesthetic hit the 2010s Tumblr by storm. Fans quickly identified with their music and their vibe. Their emotional, aesthetic-driven music resonates strongly with college women navigating identity, relationships, and independence. The lyrics of their music hit close to the audience's hearts with deep emotions.

So, what happened? Why did they leave after years of a famous career? It was announced in February of 2022 that the band was going on an indefinite hiatus. Many reasons why they decided to do this were a mental health focus, personal well-being, personal projects, and focusing on their drummer, Brandon Fried, who had harassment allegations against him.

In August of 2025, the band announced they had been in the studio since November of 2024, working on new music. The band, including drummer Brandon Fried, has reunited and is working on their struggles. Their return includes a new album !![(((((ultraSOUND)))))], released in November 2025.

Following this new album, the band has gone back on tour. Their 2026 “World Tour” marks their first major global tour in years, spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The tour runs from March through December 2026, hitting major cities like New York, London, and Los Angeles. The demand is high, with added dates and expanded shows due to sellouts.

With the return of nostalgic culture, like Bieberchella and 2016 EDM, The Neighbourhood found the perfect time to make a comeback. The band fits back in the spot they once held. The band’s aesthetic (moody, black-and-white, messy romance) aligns perfectly with current trends and TikTok-driven music.

From 2011 to 2026, their music has stood the test of time. Their aesthetic has not truly changed over time. They are still rock and alternative with black and silver as their front colors. As they continue to grow, their fans can look forward to upcoming music and concerts.
