Gilded Glamour: The Met Gala Recap
Glittering trains meet bleached brows, who nailed it?

It’s Anna Wintour’s Monday, and with it comes the highly anticipated Met Gala and the always-controversial guest list. No matter how much we want to use today as an excuse to bash the overrated celebrity we’ve always hated, we can’t deny that we are drooling over the dazzling theme of Gilded Glamour. When the theme was first announced, the internet predicted to see Bridgerton play out in real life. Anna Wintour said hold up. She requested a dress code ensuring that the guests understood the theme as a tribute to America’s Gilded Age, from 1870 to 1890, and most importantly, the impact of fashion designers across America’s history. Of course, we saw bustles and tiaras, but we also noticed an unfamiliar sense of homage trailing across the red carpet. So, who was the right girl, the right dress, and the right moment?
Blake Lively (Invisible ink *Ryan Reynolds*)
The queen sits comfortably on her throne. Has she ever failed to amaze the world with her effortless beauty? Not only did she deliver a dazzling smile that will brighten us for the rest of the year, but she showed up in a transformative Versace ball gown -starting with an aged bronze that turns into a beautiful blue-green that pays homage to the Statue of Liberty and the ceiling of Grand Central Station. We will remember this one for a while. Oh, and Ryan is just the cherry on top. (I will tear up if I analyze this dress further)
Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia was a moment. There was no need for flamboyant, the white Louis Vuitton dress encapsulates the theme perfectly. No matter how much we want to shine the spotlight on all the flashiness of the Gilded Age, we can’t overlook the life that so many Black women lived through in the 19th century. This is what the Met Gala is all about.
Kim Kardashian
A platinum blonde Kim steps onto the red carpet decorated in the dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday, Mr. President to JFK. The multi-million dollar nude rhinestone dress is a living, breathing piece of history, and it has most definitely broken the internet.
Olivia Rodrigo & Sabrina Carpenter
No, they didn’t show up together. It’s for dramatic purposes to put these two together. Look at our ~drivers license~ girlies, they completely swept us off our feet with their gorgeous gowns. You can count on them to keep the Met Gala up to the Gen Z beat.
Alicia Keys
When you think of Alicia Keys, you think of Empire State of Mind. She arrived in a Ralph Lauren Gown and cape with an NYC skyline embroidered on it using more than 200,000 crystals. She nailed the Gilded Era’s fashion value of “more-is-more” to the core.
Carey Mulligan
If there were one person that embodied the definition of Gilded Glamour, it would be Carey Mulligan. A custom design by Schiaparelli, a simple black column dress with stunning gold embroidery compliments her flawlessly. She deserves every one of the 38,000 crystals draped on her body.
Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler
Absolute heartthrobs. Kaia is in a shimmering dress with pre-raphaelite hair, and Austin is serving the “I-know-how-attractive-I-am” look. There isn’t a better place, a better occasion to debut their love, and we are obsessed.
Emma Chamberlain
The first girl to step onto the red carpet, no one and surprised. Her new hair paired with the gold and copper makeup compliments the theme perfectly. The Chanel dress effortlessly embraces her natural beauty, she is the IT girl.
There is simply not enough room to share all the love we have for this year’s Met Gala. Anna Wintour’s imagination and execution were near perfection, and I am, surprisingly, not disappointed in the tiniest bit. Perhaps, there should be an enforced dress code every year. Looking forward to the next first Monday of May.
