Everything You Need To Know About Ultimate Cool Girl Cazzie David
Nepotism, but like, the good kind.
by MADISON MANCZKO ★ NOVEMBER 14, 2021
Hollywood is no stranger to nepotism babies–does Kaia Gerber, Hailey Baldwin, or Lily-Rose Depp ring a bell? However, you may or may not know Cazzie David: the authentic, unapologetic modern cool girl we all need right now. And we’re here to tell you everything you need to know about her. Get out your phone and open her Instagram profile RN, because you’re going to want to give her a follow after this one.
#1: She’s Larry David’s daughter
Yes, we’re starting with the most obvious one. Her father Larry David is the creator of the insanely popular shows Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. However, it’s worth noting that Cazzie inherited something else from her father besides fame–coping with anxiety through humor. Her self-deprecative, sarcastic tone throughout her work really lets her personality shine. In true Cazzie fashion, she was brutally honest in a Los Angeles Times article about the things that trigger her, and being born into a famous family is definitely one of them, as she feels she needs to work harder to make a name for herself separate from her father. Despite this, she and her dad are incredibly close and she even said she wants to live with him for the rest of his life.
#2: She’s an accomplished writer, producer, and actress
Cazzie writes regularly for Air Mail News, a relatively high-brow digital magazine, that includes everything from book reviews to social media. She even wrote a collection of essays called Nobody Asked For This. In her book, Cazzie gives a funny and candid look into her childhood, anxieties, and relationships, including her breakup with Pete Davidson (don’t worry, we’ll get there soon). She also co-created and co-starred in a web series called “Eighty-Sixed,” and if you’re an Umbrella Academy fan, you can expect to see her on season 3.
#3: She’s an underrated style icon
Her laid-back style is giving easygoing and classy, and her outfits will have you looking like a certified cool girl without even trying. If you’re still not convinced, she also wrote an article for Vogue about our collective obsession with black eyeliner, the transition from the smudged punk-rock aesthetic from the early 2000s to a more TikTok E-boy vibe, and the sexy youthfulness of a good wing. This is by far one of my personal favorite pieces of hers because I’m here for a good cat-eye any day.
#4: She has a lot of interesting celeb connections
I promised we’d get there eventually. Cazzie dated Pete Davidson on and off from 2016-2018 and revealed in her book how devastated she was when he started dating Ariana Grande (I guarantee anyone would be punching the air in that situation). While we probably can’t relate to having our ex rebound with a global superstar, we can definitely relate to her pain of an ex moving on a little too fast. Aside from romance, she’s also friends with a ton of high-profile celebs, most notably John Mayer. This girl is basically everywhere.
#5: She got real on “Call Her Daddy”
Whether you consider yourself #DaddyGang or not, this episode is worth checking out solely for Cazzie’s unfiltered attitude. She talks about love bombing, toxic relationships, and that one time her ex-boyfriend yelled at her for not having sex with him enough (yeah, she thought he was kidding at first too). She truly did NOT hold back, which made for some pretty therapeutic listening.
We all know nepotism babies get a bad rep. Cazzie is unique, though, because she gives us something the rest of them can’t– relatability. Her humor and honesty about her privilege make her super personable, AND she has the talent to back it up. I think we can all learn something from Cazzie David: it’s hot to be unfiltered (and black eyeliner is an absolute MUST).
