5 Things to Do When You’re Bored Over Summer Break

Sometimes the idea of summer is a lot more fun than summer itself.

Because college is packed with tons of activities to keep you busy. So, when you are home for summer break, you are not used to having endless amounts of free time. When binge watching your favorite show on Netflix and forgetting the day of the week starts to get boring, it is time to get out of the house and do something fun.

If you need motivation to get out of bed before noon, here are some ideas to spice up your summer.

1. Get a job

Even if you aren’t interning, there are plenty of other ways to build your résumé. Whether it’s a job in food service, lifeguarding or retail, employers love to see that you have work experience.

It’s difficult to maintain a job at school, especially because you are preoccupied with insane amounts of work, so having one over the summer is a good idea. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have some extra money in your pocket to buy a cute bathing suit.

2. Have a beach day

Speaking of a new bathing suit, show it off at the beach and tan all day. When the weather is nice and the UV index is high, there’s nothing like spending a day by the ocean with your best friends.

3. Take a hike

When you’re in the mood to do something a little more active than laying out on the beach, taking a hike is a perfect alternative. Especially if you’re like the majority of college girls and are not a huge gym person, hiking is a great way to get some exercise. Not to mention, your Instagram flow will benefit from the photo-ops.

Nice weather doesn’t last forever! We all know this to be true as Syracuse students, so take advantage of being able to exercise outside.

4. Go to a sports game

Even if you’re not the biggest sports fan, attending a sporting event with a few friends is a really fun way to get out of the house. Basketball, baseball, soccer – it doesn’t matter.

Although you won’t be in the Carrier Dome bleeding orange, seeing your favorite home team can be just as enjoyable. Why pass on a perfect opportunity to wear a cute outfit and take great pictures?

5. Go on a road trip

Whether it be just a couple of hours away or across the country, getting in the car and driving somewhere is one of the best ways to spend a few days over the summer. Make the most of your summer by visiting college friends, going to an amusement park, or even rock-climbing Upstate.

So next time you are thinking about staying inside all day watching Netflix, try one of these ideas instead. Your bed will still be there when you get home!
