College life is a whirlwind — classes, clubs, social plans and somehow remembering to eat all at once. Amid the chaos, it’s easy to forget to pause and check in with yourself. But at Syracuse, self-care doesn’t have to be another task on your to-do list — it can be fun, creative and even a little luxurious.
Barnes Center at the Arch: Yoga and Fitness Classes
Nothing says Sunday reset like a good workout, and as a Syracuse student, the Barnes Center on campus has an incredible array of fitness and yoga classes that are completely free of charge. Ranging from Barre, to Pilates Sculpt, Kickboxing and Vinyasa Yoga, there’s something for everyone. Throw on a cute workout set, bring a friend, grab a smoothie and leave feeling strong and energized.
Creative Dining Hall Creations
As we enter the second half of the semester, many of us are beginning to feel fatigued with Ernie Davis orange chicken and spring rolls. I’ve found that turning dining hall trips into a chance to get creative is a game-changer, and it really makes a Tuesday morning that much more special. Pair an everything bagel with eggs, bacon and cheese for a bagel sandwich. Make avocado toast! Create a visually pleasing, Sweetgreen-inspired salad. Or whip up an ice cream brownie sundae. The key is to treat your meals as little moments of joy, not just fuel for the day.
Study Dates
Studying and homework is a part of college, but it doesn’t need to be painful. Bring snacks and hunker down in Bird with friends. If you’re feeling like you need a change of scenery, maybe find a new nook of Maxwell or Newhouse that you like. Locking in suddenly isn’t so bad when it feels more like a hangout than a chore.
Explore Off Campus
It’s easy to forget that a life outside of campus exists. There’s so much to explore. Grab an iced latte at The Society, take a hike at Green Lakes or go get a Margs tower with your girls. Life can be more than going to class and going out; Find a side quest!
Nighttime Routines
Winding down at night is key. A warm shower, journaling or a face mask before bed can make all the difference. Even adding fairy lights or soft music in your dorm can create a calming vibe that makes it easier to sleep well and feel refreshed.
Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s essential. And at Syracuse, you really can find ways to make it a part of your every day.
