Hidden Syracuse Gems to Frequent This Winter
Because let’s be real, we’re all tired of Pastabilities.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been to the usual go-to Syracuse restaurants about a hundred times. No, make that a thousand. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to dine at Francesca’s and Rise N Shine as much as the next girl, but I think it’s time we switch things up and give other restaurants some love. So, I took it upon myself to try a bunch of lesser-known bars and eateries in the area over the past few weeks to see what I (and the rest of Syracuse) was missing. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Here are four of my favorites that are worth leaving your comfort zone for this winter.
Emerald Cocktail Kitchen
My first stop was the brand new rooftop bar at Emerald Cocktail Kitchen in Tipperary Hill, and it certainly lived up to the hype. The menu featured a wide variety of gluten-free and vegan options, as well as a never-ending list of handcrafted drinks; there is definitely something here for everyone! Their namesake “Emerald” cocktail is a particular fan-favorite, and there’s no questioning why. The sweet blend of pear nectar and cinnamon is perfect for a crisp evening. And for my alcohol-free girlies, not to worry! Their fall specialty mocktails were just as delicious!
Harvey’s Garden
Looking for a new place to take your family this parent’s weekend? Look no further. Walking distance from the 505, Harvey’s Garden food truck park and beer hall is the perfect spot to take your friends and family this autumn. Named after Harvey Baldwin, the first mayor of the city of Syracuse, the picturesque venue hosts local vendors and food trucks that pair with their very own cocktail bar and beer wall! Yes, I said beer wall. (Not sure what to get? I highly suggest the maple gimlet or caramel apple margarita before they’re gone for the season!)
The Evergreen
If there’s one thing about me, I love a happy hour. That being said, I just found my new happy place: The Evergreen. Located just on Water Street, this restaurant and bar has unique specials all week long in addition to their 3-6 PM daily happy hour! Say goodbye to the usuals (I’m looking at you Kitty Hoyne’s) and say hello to your new favorite downtown pub. I promise you won’t regret it!
The Fitz
Underground--literally and metaphorically--The Fitz has to be at the top of my list. Located just beneath Oh My Darling, this secret speakeasy features weekend jazz and a romantic vibe I can’t get enough of. Their support of local musical artists and embrace of the 1920’s feel adds to the unique atmosphere and nuance of the venue that isn’t seen anywhere else in the area. So, next time you’re looking for a date-night spot on a Friday or Saturday, try it out!
I hope you enjoy these new spots (I know I certainly did) and open up your palate to new tastes this winter. Happy dining!
