Time to go on a mini road trip!

Being at school during the COVID-19 pandemic has brought panic and boredom to students across the country. Not leaving your bed for an entire day and eating everything in your fridge is the new normal. Sitting in your dorm/apartment all day everyday is exhausting and discouraging, and if you are anything like me, getting off campus with friends is the perfect medicine to make you feel better. It is an escape from the reality we are currently living in and makes the weeks go by quicker! If you are lucky enough to have a car or know someone with one, here are some great day trips you can take. Please keep in mind that at all of these places you will need to wear a mask, but they still function the same as before COVID!

Ithaca is about an hour from campus and is the perfect place for a day trip! Ithaca has a beautiful farmers market where you can buy fresh food, drinks, and unique accessories. This is the best place to drive to with friends and visit sights such as the quarries, Buttermilk Falls, The Finger Lakes, Six Mile Creek Vineyard, and even the Cornell Campus. Driving through Ithaca will make you want to stop and get out of the car every 10 minutes to take in the beautiful views and cute places.

If you're looking to stay close to campus but still want to get away, try visiting Beak and Skiff Apple Orchards to enjoy some apple picking! Beak and Skiff also has a distillery where you can taste their delicious homemade alcoholic beverages (if you’re over 21, of course). Green Lakes and Onondaga Lake Park are also two beautiful places nearby! Try going for a walk, swim, or even just hangout there. Enjoy the fresh air with a great view, and get the perfect basic Syracuse girl Instagram picture!

The town of Skaneateles is only a 30-minute drive from our campus and is home to great restaurants, shops, and a beautiful boardwalk. This is a great place to go if you are looking for a calm scene. In Skaneateles you can find many trails, vineyards, and waterfalls; there truly is something for everyone!

If you and your friends really want to get away from campus, Niagara Falls is only two and a half hours from campus. Trust me, it's worth it! Niagara falls is fun to see, and once you go, you can cross it off your bucket list.

Lake Ontario in Oswego is just 45 minutes away and absolutely breathtaking! When visiting Oswego, try stopping by Breitbeck Park where you can walk around and watch an amazing sunset overlooking Lake Ontario. There are countless restaurants, for any type of occasion, overlooking the water with food that will make you keep wanting to come back!

Binghamton is a little over an hour away from campus and is a great place to go for a meal or to just walk around! Binghamton is home to The Cider Mill where you can get baked goods, apple cider, and wine. It is such a great spot with so many yummy options!

Taking a day trip away from campus is the best way to get a new perspective and clear your mind. Everything happening in the world right now is unimaginable and getting away with your friends can be great for your mental health.
