Best and Worst Dressed: SAG Awards 2023

Zendaya is back and better than ever.

The 29th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards took place Sunday night and are one of the biggest awards nights in Hollywood. Accolades are given by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and recognize outstanding performances in movies and prime-time television. A star-studded night including Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Amanda Seyfried, the fashion was bound to impress. However, some looks were…questionable. Let's take a look at some of the best and worst dressed of the night.

Starting off our best-dressed list is the fashion icon herself, Zendaya. The Euphoria star and best actress nominee wowed in a light pink strapless custom Valentino gown. The dress was crafted with pink duchesse satin and accompanied by 190 pink roses. To add more glitz to the glamor, Zendaya paired her dress with a stunning Bulgari necklace worth around $2 million (gulp). It's safe to say Zendaya can do no wrong on the red carpet, and this old Hollywood-inspired look makes no exception.

Next up on our best-dressed list is the it-boy of the moment, Austin Butler. The star took to his Elvis roots and donned a three-piece burgundy tuxedo by Gucci. Austin strayed away from his usual black suit, earning brownie points from all of us here at UGirl. The tailoring and color of the tuxedo embraced class and theme, gaining him a spot on the best-dressed list.

Some other of my favorite looks from the night include Jennifer Coolidge, who won the award for best female actor in a drama series for her role in The White Lotus, in Saint Laurent, Jenna Ortega, who was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role in the Netflix hit show Wednesday, in Versace, and Cate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani Privé- who has embraced sustainability by refashioning the lace top, previously wearing it to the 2014 Golden Globes and the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

Moving on to the worst dressed of the night, we have Michelle Yeoh in Schiaparelli. The simple black column gown featured straw-like material running down the front. The design looked uncomfortable and cheap, like they shredded-up yellow paper and stuck it straight to her dress. However, Michelle made history by becoming the first Asian woman to win best performance by a female actor in a leading role for Everything Everywhere All At Once. So I guess we can overlook this bizarre look.

Another contender for the worst-dressed list is Amanda Seyfried. Amanda wore a green mini Prada dress with an awkward train running down the back. I usually love a mod-60s-inspired look, but the shape and train of this dress confused me. The strappy heels also look like something I wore to homecoming freshman year. I’m getting flashbacks…

Other looks I would deem belong on the worst-dressed list are Simona Tabasco in Giorgio Armani, Sheila Atim in Christopher John Rodgers, and Jessica Williams in Rosie Assoulin.

The SAG Awards is an underrated event in the world of Hollywood awards nights. Encompassing 160,000 film and TV actors, the Screen Actors Guild is an influential union, making this award night prominent. Overall, the fashion impressed me with a lot of diverse looks. Next up is the Oscars, will we be moved or disappointed?
