Style Guide For Syracuse Sorority Recruitment

Going Greek and looking chic.

This one goes out to all the girls seeking their new sisters during this crazy time. All of us at UGirl want to be your sisters too, and boy do we have some advice for you. We know we missed round one and two, but our style suggestions for rounds three and four are guaranteed to make up for it!

Let’s talk about round three, also known as House Tours. So what the hell is business casual? This fashion term may seem intimidating and new, but it’s quite simple and can actually be fun. Instead of the whole “mom lawyer wearing pinstriped trousers with Payless heels look,” try an oversized blazer or sweater vest instead.

If you want to go for the oversized blazer, we suggest putting a solid-colored turtleneck underneath and close the blazer with one button. Layer as many necklaces as you want in the metal of your choosing, pull your hair back to highlight the jewels and you’re done! We all know the bottom half of an outfit is basically irrelevant, so slip something on for comfort such as a pair of leather leggings or mom jeans.

If you decide to go with the sweater vest, you can do something pretty similar. Instead of layering the vest with a turtleneck, grab a plain white button-up instead. Unbutton a few of the top buttons, add a few necklaces, and pull your hair into a topknot bun. Just because you have to be professional, doesn’t mean your look can’t be fun.

Alrighty, let’s move on to round four, otherwise known as Preference. This round’s theme is cocktail dresses. The goals here are to look cute, formal, and clean—no high school homecoming vibes from when you were fourteen. Once again, only the top of this dress is what really matters, so the regular spaghetti straps or scoop necks aren’t going to cut it.

One option is to get crazy with the sleeves. Nowadays, the puff sleeve is extremely in and can turn a plain black dress into something trendy and exciting.

If sleeves aren’t your thing, and you’d rather go a more minimalist route, try to play around with the neckline. Some of our favorites include the box, the boat, or the illusion. These styles are unique and will catch the attention of anyone you are talking to over Zoom!

With all of these suggestions in mind, it’s important to wear whatever you feel the most confident in while going through the rounds. This process can be stressful, trust us, we know. With everything over Zoom, it’s hard to even find the motivation to go full out with your fits. But, looking good makes you feel good and when you’re feeling good, you are guaranteed to rock your rounds and end up one step closer to the sorority of your dreams!
