Summer Style Guide: Coco Bassey

Because we all need a little fit-spiration.

by CAROLINE DELISLE ★ JUNE 17, 2020

With social distance restrictions lifting, we all need a quick refresher on what fashion is beyond our favorite loungewear. That’s right, it’s finally time to put away that pair of sweatpants you’ve been wearing everyday since March and style yourself! Luckily, Coco Bassey (@cocobassey on Instagram) is here to help us out. We’ve gathered some of our favorite fits in order to help you rediscover, or reinvent, your style! Here are some of Coco’s stellar looks. Have your pen and paper ready, it’s time to take some notes.

The perfect brunch ensemble:

Blazer: Kohls, ASOS

Shirt: Kohls

Shoes: Lucky Brand

We love the look of a sharp blazer made cute and casual. Paired with some high-rise light-wash jeans, a cool graphic tee, and your favorite booties, this look is the perfect balance of feminine and edgy, comfortable and stylish, casual, and chic.

Jacket: Urban Outfitters

Skirt: Free People, Forever 21

Shoes: ASOS, Shein

Bag: Coach, H&M

The queen of doing it all, Coco throws a black leather jacket over a white t-shirt to offset the bursts of feminine pink and coral that make up her skirt-shoe-purse combo. Three-quarter skirts made a huge comeback last winter, but we don't have to pack them away with our snow boots and mittens! This trend can gracefully transition into summer as that perfect pop of pastel in your fit. And, if you really want to take it up a notch, pair it with fun heels and a matching bag for some flawless color-coordination. Finding cute ways to match different pieces can be fun! A flowy skirt will also help keep you cool in that summer heat!

Purse: Dior

Blazer: Marks & Spencer USA, YesStyle, ASOS, Indie & Beau

Jeans: 7 For All Mankind

Another blazer look, but this time… make it plaid! Coco complemented a sophisticated swoop-necked black shirt and gold jewelry with a more casual tweed blazer, light-washed denim, and street sneakers. Playing with unlikely clothing combinations and seeking that balance of bougie elegance and streetwear can be a fun way to experiment with your style!

A breezy beach look:

Hat: Target, J.Crew

Earrings: Adornmonde

Sun Dress: Revolve, Revolve, Free People, Free People

Whether used as a cover-up or worn as a complete outfit, a flowy boho dress is always a fashionable and comfortable choice! Coco is adorned in a sundress with a cute, dainty floral pattern, and she accessorized with a straw sun hat, completing the look. The one pictured here is Dior, but you can find cheaper alternatives at stores like Target or H&M. Not only is this look gorgeous, but it is also practical! A flowy, sleeveless dress is perfect for a hot sunny day on the beach.

Cover up: Nic del Mar

Suit: Nic del Mar, Zaful

Sunglasses: Burberry

If you know you’ll be swimming, or you want to avoid any awkward sundress tan lines, throw an elegant coverup over your favorite suit. We are obsessed with the simple black-and-white color scheme that Coco chose in this photo. And the heart sunglasses? Too cute. Check out H&M or Free People for some boho bathing suit and cover-up options!

Fun and flirty evening outfit:

Jumpsuit: Azulu

Bag: Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Banana Republic

Coco did not come to play when she hit us with this tropical floral jumpsuit from Azulu. Everything about this look- from the bright colors to the cinched waist to the fun layered sleeves - says summer night on the town. Even better: you don’t have to worry about matching a top and bottom to make your outfit! With a jumpsuit, the hard part is done for you. Now it’s just about finding that perfect lip color to go with those flowers...

Time for a night out:

Shirt: Windsor, Windsor, White House Black Market

Skirt: Lulus, Lulus

Bag: Dior

In the spirit of hoping we are one day able to gather in large groups again, here is one of our favorite night-out looks. Metals are becoming increasingly popular and we love the Gatsby-inspired gold skirt juxtaposed by the monochrome black of the rest of the outfit. The leather jacket is a chic extra layer in case it’s a cool night, but it can easily be discarded to show off the sexy black blouse underneath. Flattering and photogenic, this is the perfect look for a girl boss or for a little fun.

Finding the perfect outfit for every occasion is challenging enough, but doing this after being quarantined for nearly four months can seem impossible! Lucky for us, fashion gurus like Coco Bassey are here to help. If you are ever stuck in a style rut, there are some beautiful and talented women out there from whom you can seek inspiration! What we love about Coco’s brand is her ability to own whatever fit she is wearing with a confidence that commands a room. It’s about finding the pieces that make you feel confident and creating outfits that showcase your unique style.
