The Tea On Tea

Have you heard of the newest tea? For those of you who haven’t been put on by your besties yet, the Tea app has OFFICIALLY hit Syracuse.
What is tea? The tea app (for dating advice) was created by two women who wanted to create a safe place for girls to compare notes on guys they are dating. Despite being founded in 2023 the app is just gaining attraction on college campuses nationwide now. I have to say this app is genius. I mean we have all been in the situation before, we find a guy we deem as our future husband to find out he’s a complete asshole, so now with Tea you get the dirt you (and I) have been searching for.
How does it work? Well, it is very much a place JUST for the girls . After downloading the app you must upload a picture identifying you are a female and make a profile with all your information. Then, a team who works for the tea app will review your profile that will get accepted typically in the next 24 hours.
Afterwards, any girl can upload a picture of any guy. Then other girls on the app can comment on said picture. Whether it is positive feedback or “worst hook up ever” any girl can dish it out in the comments . On top of all of this everyone’s profile is an anonymous name so people really aren’t afraid to write their opinions. AND THE BEST PART- this app doesn’t allow for any screenshots so it all stays between the approved girls!
So how do I feel about this? Honestly, I have mixed reviews. I do think certain things are good warnings. For example, a friend of mine had a guy interested in her yet on the app he had over 35 red flags. I mean, in that case if over 35 girls want to red flag you there’s something up. It is also quite entertaining to scroll through guys you see at parties on the weekends being called a “cheater”. This app reveals tons of drama and I am sure does actually stop girls from falling for the wrong guy. However, the app is so open for anybody’s judgement and opinions and part of me has a little sympathy for some of these guys who are getting dragged on an app where they can’t defend themselves. I do have to say I would hate if this app was made in reverse and boys could openly comment on any girl.
On the tea app Instagram account there is a highlight of what Tea girls have found out from the app. One girl saw her friend's boyfriend on it. Imagine you are in a SERIOUS relationship and girls are giving your man a red flag. You know he has been out there and lying to you about something. Another girl confesses she was going out with a guy and looking him up turns out he was in and out of jail with multiple felonies. Another girl said she had been two timed and became friends with the other girl through Tea. That's a great friendship origin story.
However, one girl said she looked up a guy she matched with on hinge to find out he had 8 green flags! This is a success story. These green flags are definitely a great validation you are with the right guy, especially on a college campus like Syracuse where everybody knows everybody! Another girl said the guy she had been seeing had comments saying “I used to date him husband material” . You know he’s a keeper!
So girls, that’s what you need to know and all the Tea on Tea. So if you choose to download this app make sure you are being truthful and careful (always have to be safe), and finding out good Tea on the guys you are interested in.
