Unpacking the Perfect Morning Routine

The internet convinces us to do more than we need.

I’m guilty of it. You’re likely guilty of it — it’s the perfect morning routine. TikTok is FULL of wealthy influencers displaying what they do every morning to maintain a flat stomach, glass skin and high energy (conveniently leaving out the ozempic and botox they’ve gotten while posting social media content from home to earn a living).

If @soandso talks about drinking bone broth on an empty stomach every morning to improve protein intake, but @otherperson says to wake up with green tea for gut health, what’s the right answer? To make matters worse, it seems like every celebrity has their own perfect morning routine that is the secret to their undeniable success. Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid and Anna Wintour are a few of many who have had their routines trend all over social media.

It is a struggle to choose just one routine to follow. After all, who doesn’t want the hair and nail benefits of bone broth AND the weight-managing benefits of green tea? But even worse than making a decision is adding too many components. Bone broth + green tea + fiber supplements + protein shake = a day well spent…on the toilet.

At the end of the day, there is no perfect morning routine that works for everyone. We’re all different people who need different things to function. The key is finding elements that work for you — maybe with some inspiration from influencers’ routines. Pay attention to your own means and needs. It’s worth remembering: A morning routine is just the beginning of your day. No matter how diligently you sip the green tea or stir the collagen powder, true change comes from consistent intention that carries through every decision.

Motivated? Good. Time to build a routine.

Before you can take steps, you need to address your health goals. You will see more success if you focus on just one or two physical goals. Broader, long-term benefits will then follow naturally. Maybe you want to improve digestion, make your hair long and thick or deal with pesky breakouts. Then, you’ll need to research, experiment and pay attention to how your body responds. Yes, it is annoying to not have a solution magically made up for you. But, the process takes work, and the result will be a feel-good routine that is totally worth it.

It can be easy to fall into a trap of trying to be like every influencer who seems to have it all together, but it is important to remain level-headed and self-oriented. There is no miracle solution that will bring you the results that these people’s money, status and time have granted them. But, you can still start your day off on the right foot.

The perfect morning routine is unique for everyone, and isn’t that better? You aren’t doing some distant celebrity’s routine, you’re doing YOUR routine.
