How to DIY the Iconic TikTok Salmon Bowl from your Dorm
Ice cubes and salmon? Who ever heard of such a thing?

Emily Mariko has taken over TikTok this past week, and I don't know about you, but I've been DYING to try her famous dish myself. If you have spent *any* time on the app, you know exactly what I am talking about: salmon and rice, mixed in with some sriracha and kewpie mayo, and a special ingredient *drum roll please*... an ice cube!
In case you’re confused thinking, “people are freaking out over...salmon...and... rice..?” I get it. It's not like they are the most NOVEL of ingredients. But trust me--the dish written out does NOT do it justice. Call Emily crazy, but the ice cube is the finishing touch for the perfect temperature. You just need to see it for yourself and watch the TikTok!
So for all my Syracuse friends wondering if this twist on sushi tastes as good as it looks, try it out yourself. I got you covered.
Step 1
First, take a quick trip to Wegmans to pick up your salmon, rice, sriracha, and avocado. I recommend asking for a 6-ounce piece of fresh salmon fillet and a bag of 1-minute rice (We are all college students, aren't we? We don’t have all day!).
Step 2
This is where things get *crazy.* Head to your second grocery store of the day, but this one must be a Supermarket for Asian Cuisine. Some options in the area are Asia Food Market, Han's Oriental Supermarket, and Far East & Asian Groceries. Trust me, it’s worth the trip; there are SO many fun finds at these markets. Here you will check out with Kewpie Mayo, Kimchi, soy sauce, seaweed, and most importantly, chopsticks!
Step 3.
Back at your dorm, apartment, or sorority house, lay out all the ingredients in the kitchen. It’s time to get cooking!
Step 4
Massage the salmon with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and bake it in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes.
Step 5
Next, add two cups of water to a pot and bring it to a boil. Remove the heat, add two cups of rice, a pinch of salt, and stir!
Step 6
Before you flake it (translation: mash it with a fork), place your salmon on a plate, put the rice on top, and grab a piece of parchment paper. Now we have our secret ingredient… an ice cube! Place an ice cube on top of the rice, cover with the paper, and then microwave for one minute. This is done so the rice doesn't dry out in the microwave. Remove the ice cube and flake your salmon!
Step 7
Mix in sriracha, kewpie mayo, and soy sauce to taste. If you want some extra *flavor,* add in slices of avocado and kimchi just for fun!
Step 8
Using your chopsticks, wrap rice into pieces of seaweed. It's kind of like makeshift sushi, but *different.*
Step 9
Eat up and enjoy--You’re gonna LOVE it!
There you have it! Only a few short & sweet steps and you can enjoy the first of Emily Mariko’s viral recipes, and it’s even faster with leftovers. I'm sure she will have something new for us to obsess over shortly. Stay tuned!
