We all know how popular Taylor Swift is, but is her claim to fame over? With the release of four new songs as a part of “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” a deluxe version of her twelfth album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” previously released 11-months ago, fans are left questioning the integrity of her music and if she has lost her touch.
The spotlight around “The Era’s Tour” previously skyrocketed Swift to be claimed as the biggest pop-star in the world today. With record breaking global tours and streaming numbers, Taylor Swift would go down in history as having the highest grossing tour, reaching over two billion dollars.
It's no secret that Taylor Alison Swift is talented, but is her music the same level of quality as it once was? The 58-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter faced an immense amount of drawback on the four newest additions to her deluxe album, featuring songs: “Patient Zero,” "Cleveland!," “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.”
Despite originally receiving criticism towards “The Life of Showgirl,” Swift took home three awards at the 2026 VMA award show: Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia,” Best Direction for “Opalite,” and Artist Director Honors for her visual storytelling abilities. She also debuted her newest music video for the song “Patient Zero.” This would bring her total to 33 VMA awards, making her the most awarded artist in VMA history. Were these all deserved? Or do people simply vote for her because of her name and likeness?
While some critics argued the new four songs carried the album saving her “best tricks for the grand finale,” according to Globe and Mail’s Aisling Murphy, others had differing opinions. Telegraphs Poppie Platt, a self-proclaimed “Swiftie,” declared, “the songs on The Life of a Showgirl: Encore Edition are just as derivative and flat as those that populated the original.”
So I ask the question,“Is Taylor really burned out at age 36?”
Despite the mixed reviews and criticisms surrounding her new music, I think it is clear Taylor will be just fine. Even without prompting, she will continue her career, making new albums and winning awards at a level far greater than most musicians will ever achieve. Regardless of what the masses think of her music, one thing is clear: Taylor Swift will remain in the spotlight for years to come.
