TV Characters Who Need to Work it Out On the Remix

Brat summer has taken over.

by RHYLEE HUDSON & MORGAN MAGATS ★ JULY 21, 2024

Now that we’re midway through our BRAT summer, we’ve compiled some of our favorite television characters, who in Charli XCX’s words, should “work it out in the remix.” If you aren’t well versed in this lore, “Work it out in the remix,” originates from the British popstar’s song “Girl, so confusing”.  The song’s muse, Lorde, a fellow pop star who Charli is often compared to, appears in the remix of the 10th track on BRAT. This iconic duo has created an entire subculture this summer. The two friends have often been compared, creating a competitive rivalry both platonically and professionally, creating a skewed and unclear narrative between the two. So essentially, “work it out in the remix” is reconciling and moving forward in friendship. Though the last time we saw some of these iconic duos and groups on our screens it seemed like they might have beef too big to squash, so hopefully, they can work it out in the remix.

The Pretty Little Liars girls and A (Pretty Little Liars):

Starting off strong, Emily Fields, Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marrin, and A need to work it out. There was more than one A throughout the seven complex seasons, which created quite a mystery to be solved. Let's leave Hanna, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and even Alison, to work it out with Mona, Charlotte, Alex, and Jenna. Just a few of their crimes include hacking, blackmailing, spying, stalking, and attempted murder. Hopefully, these Rosewood residents can move past these slight incidents and be cordial.

Carrie Bradshaw and Big (Sex and the City):

It might have taken seven seasons, two movies, and a revival of the show but THEY WORKED IT OUT ON THE REMIX!!! Rest in peace, Big you would’ve loved the Charli xcx brat memes about you going to Paris.

Maddy Perez and Cassie Howard (Euphoria):

Over 2 years ago, we witnessed one of the biggest downfalls of friendship. Maddy Perez and Cassie Howard were thick as thieves, but that did not stop one half of the pair from getting with the other's boyfriend. Although Cassie is not fully to blame (I will defend her forever), this entire situation could’ve been avoided. Once these ex-friends confront their feelings, communicate, and have that tough conversation that Nate Jacobs is arguably the worst human to exist, I think they could work it out. But I will say that the fight was brewing anyway, so now that they have physically duked it out, maybe they can rekindle that loving friendship that they once had.

Santana Lopez and Rachel Berry (Glee):

It’s quite obvious that the main juxtaposing characters Glee has given us are Santana Lopez and Rachel Berry. Though some of Santana’s nicknames for Rachel include (but are far than limited to): Hobbit, “Pippi Longstocking, but like, Israeli,” and Finn’s “loud, loud girlfriend,” there are several glimpses of true friendship among the two girls. We’d like to think the two are living happily in NYC and sometimes converse over their previous employment at Spotlight Diner and anything else that may follow.

Bette Porter and Tina Kennard (The L Word):

Now let’s talk about a rollercoaster, we think happy Tibette was one of the best relationships on the L-word, aside from Sharmen (RIP). Cheating, kidnapping, fighting, and arguing, with the desire to make things right, they are top contenders for working it out on the remix. And from the ending of the series, we do know that they ultimately did work it out, and are much more civil.
