Why Lori Harvey Is That Girl

Lori Harvey is a model, nepo baby, and socialite known for dating some of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors including Michael B. Jordan, Trey Songz, and Future. With her relationships always at the forefront of the tabloids, the public (mostly men) tends to leave vitriolic and, might I add unasked-for, comments on her ever-changing dating life. But I’m here to say that I’m absolutely obsessed with her ability to leave a relationship that she feels isn’t worth her time.
It is 2024, and if there are mantras we can take into the new year, they are not being afraid to walk away from a relationship that no longer serves us, knowing our self-worth, and not settling for less. Lori is the epitome of the aforementioned mottos, and I think we can all learn from her.
The socialite has often been judged for moving on too quickly after leaving Michael B Jordan and dating Snowfall actor Damson Idris. But who decided there was a move-on time frame? As media consumers, people constantly share their opinions on relationships they don’t know firsthand. If a new man treated Lori better than her ex-boyfriend, who is to say she should hold back? What one guy is lacking, another one will make up for, and she gets it.
The backlash Ms. Harvey faces, specifically in her dating life, reveals the double standards lingering in our society today. The model is judged for what most men get praised for–dating around. While Lori gets labeled as someone who is “for everyone,” guys get called “the man,” and it’s unfair.
Lori is a young and irrevocably gorgeous woman; why do we expect her to be with one man at such a young age? Our 20s are meant to be a pivotal time in our lives to experiment with careers and relationships and figure out ourselves and what we want. Kudos to Lori for not wasting her time in relationships that she doesn’t deem necessary or worth her time. That being said, tying the knot was almost a reality for her at 20 years old to Dutch soccer player Memphis Depay. In an interview with singer and actress Teyana Taylor, Lori explained how she backed out of marriage at a young age because of the realization she hadn’t experienced much at that age.
After the called-off engagement, Lori continued the interview by saying she dated on her own terms and that however she wanted to move and what she wanted to do, she would do it. Slay Lori! And despite all of the rumors spewing from her relationships, the model remains mysterious and doesn’t feel the need to clear anything up. As women, we face a copious amount of judgment in everything that we do. Let’s learn from her ability to continue living life the way she wants to through the heaps of negative opinions. If she can deal with millions of comments as someone in the public eye, we college students can deal with a few haters.
