The Return of The Victoria Secret Fashion Show
Welcome Back, Angels!
by Arielle Gin ★ DECEMBER 2, 2024
After 5 years, the Victoria Secret Show is officially back with a bang. After making what was thought to be its final debut in 2019, Victoria Secret announced earlier this year that the VS show would officially be returning.
The Victoria Secret Fashion show ended in 2019 due to backlash surrounding lack of diversity and accusations of sexism and ageism among its models along with declining viewer ratings, “falling from more than 10 million viewers in 2010 to just over 3 million in 2018.” Following the criticism, Victoria's Secret announced it would be canceling the show in November 2019 so it could “evolve the messaging of (the company).” And after 5 years of incorporating more racial diversity and positive body messages and models into their campaign ads, the VS show officially returned in October 2024.
In previous years of having singers from The Weekend to Ed Sheeren, the VS show this year featured an all female musical lineup including, Cher, Tyla, and Lisa from “Blackpink.” Gigi Hadid opened the show dressed in a pink satin teddy, with strappy heels coiled up to her mid-calf, and mechanically operated pink wings that made her opening all the more stunning. After Hadid’s grand entrance, all our favorite angels made their unforgettable return—Adriana Lima, Bella Hadid, Tyra Banks, Irina Shayk, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Kate Moss, and Barbara Palvin Sprouse all made their iconic comeback on the runway. Showcasing the hottest new Victoria Secret bodysuits and bombshells, this show did not disappoint.
Valentina Sampaio made her first runway debut, being the first transgender woman to model for Victoria’s Secret. Dressed up in a midnight blue lingerie set and mesh skirt, Alex Consani, model and Tik Tok persona, also made her first VS show debut as one of the first transgender models to walk the VS runway. Decked out in a shimmering silver set with full body silver wings, Cosani’s debut exceeded our expectations.
However, some of our favorite angels didn’t return for the iconic reunion. Heidi Klum and Kendall Jenner did not return to the runway because of their ambassador work for Intermissmi and Calvin Klein, creating conflict with the VS show. Gisele Bündchen also did not return this year, exclaiming she has “zero desire” to walk a catwalk again, sharing that she prefers editorial shoots over runways.
And that’s a wrap on the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show! While Victoria Secret has yet to officially announce a 2025 show, this year’s spectacle dazzled us with the hottest new designs and a celebration of everything we missed from the early 2000s VS fashion shows. From Gigi’s mechanical wings to Isabeli Fontana’s metallic gold feather bodysuit, this year’s show was a bold reminder to viewers that Victoria Secret is officially back.
