“Coming of Age”
British pop singer Maisie Peters has been gaining more and more recognition lately. From opening for popular artists to headlining her own tour, she has gained popularity not only in Europe, but also in the U.S. Peters first began her career as a teenager, releasing her debut single, “Place We Were Made,” in 2017, followed by another single, “Birthday,” later that year. Her first album, You Signed Up For This, was released a few years later in 2021. The album featured several popular tracks, including “Psycho,” "Love Him I Don’t,” and my personal favorite, “John Hughes Movie.”
In 2023, Peters released her most recent album, The Good Witch, which includes hits like “Coming of Age,” “Body Better,” and “BSC.” This album topped the UK charts and introduced her music to an even wider audience. With relatable songs about getting over breakups and the realities of being a woman, Peters captures emotions that resonate with us all.
In her song "Lost The Breakup," she describes the feeling when you finally get over an ex and realize that you’re better off without him (and he’s worse off without you)-“I’ll smile and you'll have to face it/ I’m the greeted love that you wasted.”Another song from The Good Witch, “History of Man,” powerfully addresses the challenges women face daily and the problematic way men treat them. She sings, “He stole our youth and promised heaven…Women’s hearts are lethal weapons/ Did you hold mine and feel threatened?” My favorite song from the album, “There It Goes,” lyrically explores the process of letting go of a relationship that no longer works. Peters sings, “The love we had was covered in snow, I had to let it go/ Yeah, the love we had was eating me whole, I had to send it home.”
“Another Rockstar”
In addition to her solo tours, Peters has opened up for a number of popular artists. She previously opened for Ed Sheeran and has since developed a close relationship with him. More recently, she opened for one of the nights of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, a move that is sure to have expanded her fanbase and solidified her place as an up-and-coming artist. She also opened for Coldplay on their recent tour, which has been one of the highest-grossing tours of all time alongside The Eras Tour. Currently, Peters is touring on the Found Heaven Tour with Conan Gray, but on September 22, she made a pit stop here at Syracuse University to perform at Juice Jam.
“I Made It To September”
Each year, Syracuse holds a music event called Juice Jam, featuring many up and coming artists. This year, Maisie Peters was one of the opening acts for headliner Quavo. During her set, she played many of her most popular songs, including “Blonde,” “John Hughes Movie,” “There It Goes,” and more. She even covered classics like “Holding Out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler and “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. Throughout the performance, fans could be seen dressed up in sparkly clothes and screaming along to her songs. One fan described the experience, saying, “Her energy was electric when she performed ‘BSC.’” It is clear to see that Maisie Peters is a star on the rise, and we can look forward to more amazing things from her in the future.
