Moments from the Met

The best looks from the iconic carpet.

Fashion’s biggest night of the year comes, the first Monday in May, the superbowl of the fashion world, the Met Gala. The theme of 2023 is Karl Lagerfeld, A Line of Beauty. The theme pays homage to the fashion designer, who passed away in 2019 after over six decades working in the fashion industry. Lagerfeld was a designer of many Met Gala looks himself. Lagerfeld is most known for his time with Chanel, the mastermind behind what the brand has become today. Every year, the biggest artists, athletes, and Hollywood stars gather dressed in a designer’s look. Some looks are wildly off-theme and some marvelously hit it on the dot. Here is a look at some of the most popular fits this year.

Rihanna attended with her partner A$AP Rocky in custom Valentino, slaying it as always. Queen RiRi shed the flowers later on to reveal a slim white bodice and her adorable baby bump!

One of the hosts for the night, Penelope Cruz, wore an archival Chanel bridal. Cruz took Disney Princess to a whole new level with this gorgeous gown.

Newcomer, Paris Hilton, traded her usual pink for an all black gown designed by Marc Jacobs. The look was bold, daring, and I simply can not wait to see more of this from her.

The sister trio: Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and Kim Kardashian did not disappoint. Kendall wore platform boots and a black suit and train by Marc Jacobs, Kylie wore blue and red in Jean Paul Gaultier and Kim dripped in pearls with Schiaparelli. Thankfully, there was no ripping of classic dresses this year. Still love you Kim.

The model Quannah Chasinghorse represented her native culture, Navajo, through different elements of her style such as hair and native tattoos. Lagerfeld once said there was nothing worse than pink, but what’s fashion without a little rebellion?

While most chose to go with an elegant black and white look, a few decided to be a bit more daring. The queen Viola Davis went bright pink in Valentino, the gorgeous Salma Hayek went for a stunning Gucci ball gown, and let us not forget the internet’s king Pedro Pascal went with a chunky red coat and black shorts. Just when you think they can’t get more amazing…

There were two pregnancy announcements, by model Karli Kloss and tennis star Serena Williams. (Maybe they got some inspo from Rihanna.)

Surprisingly, more than one person embodied Lagerfeld’s cat, but Ms. Doja Cat takes the cake on this one. Whether she goes full feline or covered in red jewels she simply never fails to wow us all.

Of course, Lil Nas X outshined, literally. The singer was decorated in metallic paint and jewels from head-to-toe. Anyone else getting mythical creature vibes?

Possibly the most on-theme look was Jeremy Pope who wore a Balmain cape with Lagerfeld’s face flowing several feet long. Pope is giving main character vibes and I’m here for it.

It was certainly an affair to remember. I think Karl Lagerfeld would be proud.
