The Eras Movie

Are you ready for it?

by EMMA NEENAN ★ NOVEMBER 12, 2023

Taylor Swift sold out stadiums, shocked the internet with her new NFL man, Travis Kelce, and created a war zone out of SeatGeek. I think we can all agree that Taylor has grown into one of the most successful female singers following her Eras Tour. And trust me, that mention of the SeatGeek warzone was no joke. Not even a presale code could save you from the inevitable.

Once you were able to secure a ticket, you couldn't even put your credit card info in without it being sold. The tickets sold out within seconds, only to be resold for 5x the price, turning the ability to attend the concert into who could throw the most money into online bids.  As someone who has loved Taylor Swift since 2010, I was absolutely heartbroken to see the resale price of $1,600 flash across my screen. I was devastated, watching my For You page eagerly each night, waiting for each surprise song, and thinking about the things I would have done to be able to have a seat in that audience.

Thankfully, our girl Taylor has now brought us the possibility of experiencing the Eras tour with her–even if your presale codes didn’t let you get tickets to the show. Sitting in the theater, the screen projects the highest quality image I have ever experienced, just as if I were at the concert. Filling in the blanks of herds of teenage girls, waiting in merch lines wrapping around corners, watching the exchange of handmade friendship bracelets… I was ready to experience the Eras tour from my seat.

Not only is this movie an opportunity for Swifties to experience the iconic Eras Tour in the comfort of a theater, but for my Whitman girlies out there, this movie is also the highest-grossing concert film. Taylor is receiving about 57% of all ticket purchases, and she has made 92.8 million dollars within the first 3 days since the film was released. Averaging a total of 126 million dollars worldwide Variety. To say that Taylor is a pop star is an understatement…she’s an icon.

The movie starts with Taylor addressing the audience, saying, “Oh, hi,” as if the audience of thousands of people is made up of familiar faces. Taylor treats her audience as her friends, providing not only a phenomenal musical experience but also guidance and words of affirmation… are we even surprised? It’s clear throughout the film that Taylor isn’t a generic famous singer, but she genuinely means the lyrics she sings in her songs.

Taylor blessed our ears by singing songs from all ten studio albums. From her first songs to her last, we are able to see her life story unravel in her music throughout what will be the best 2 hours and 48 minutes of your life. From songs created by baby Taylor experiencing her first heartbreak to her revenge album serving major villain era, ending with Folklore giving us all of the sad fall vibes, Taylor truly served it all.

The Eras movie gives us a better version than the iPhone videos swarming your TikTok after every show. It allows people to truly have the experience of being at her concert without draining their bank account for resale tickets. It allows for some of us to relieve the night we will never forget and gives those of us who will forever resent SeatGeek the ability to experience the concert we would have given our left kidney for.
