The Evolution of Emma Chamberlain
From teddy bear jackets to the Met
by ALLY LAIN-HEDDEN ★ SEPTEMBER 21, 2021
Let's all give Emma a *forehead kiss* because she absolutely killed it at her first Met Gala, literally GLOWING for the gods. Dressed in a stunning Louis Vuitton ~Golden Girls vibe~ Gown, Emma looked regal. Long gone is the bleached blonde hair and VSCO girl energy of 2017. Emma now has over 10 million subscribers, her own coffee business, and a best selling podcast, Anything Goes. She is the definition of a badass girl boss (not in a cheugy way).
Honestly, how could anyone not like her? She’s honest, wears sweatpants, and has acne, just like us. From the beginning, we were able to relate to her issues with school, boys and friend drama--a.k.a.what every teenage girl struggles with. Finally, we saw an actual celeb who never dared to Photoshop her face and actually struggled with acne. The way she publicly handled her acne was inspiring. Personally, as someone who deals with bad acne, it gave me the confidence to go out and not feel the need to cover up or hit the Facetune app. She also isn't afraid to speak about her mental health, a topic that is not talked about NEARLY enough in the media. YouTube gave her a space to show young girls that you can be beautiful even with messy hair and puffy red eyes. In her podcast, Anything Goes, she dives more into her personal battles with depression and anxiety. I highly recommend listening to it-- she gives great life and relationship advice, and not to mention is extremelyyyy candid and real. She has found reading, cooking and meditation to be great avenues to escape the pressure she feels from society and herself. Her platform speaks about topics that need to be talked about more in our world. Her relatable content shows that it's okay to cry and sit in bed all day. I mean, who doesn't? Simply put: Emma makes us feel *safe.*
Even when she moved to Los Angeles, she still remained herself. Yes, she did change up her hair, and maybe dated a Dolan Twin, but she still was the Emma we loved. So many YouTubers move to LA and change or involve themselves in way too many scandals. (*Cough cough* James Charles.) But with Emma the only thing that changed was her brand and that she loved SoulCycle, I get it. I mean just look at her latest collabs: Vogue, PrincessPolly and BadHabit. Obviously, Louis Vuitton gets its moment, because of them we were able to get some iconic pics of Emma. I LIVE for her Paris Fashion Week Vlogs. And how could we forget her own coffee brand, Chamberlain Coffee? (Obsessed with the packaging, but if anyone has tried it please let me know.)
The brand deals are one thing but let's talk about her fashion--Her style is just perfect. Her fashion expresses her personality: it's a bit of comfort, elegant, yet so sexy. I'm not even going to hide the fact I follow her Pinterest Board. I seriously recommend that you all do also. I mean, just look at her outfits:
Regardless of her success, Emma still remains private. She only shows a glimpse of her life to her viewers. Even though people like to speculate about her life, nobody ever knows the truth because she maintains a low profile.
Her success is not shocking, to say the least. People love her sarcastic and authentic humor. She truly is an inspiration for all. From her 2017 VSCO girl era to attending the 2021 Met Gala, our queen has done it all. We can't wait to see what future collabs and vlogs she has planned. But in the meantime, go drink a coffee, and binge all her videos if you haven't already. *Forehead Kiss*
