The Bachelor: Episode Five Recap
Matt finally took the trash out!

Let’s recap!
Last week, the episode ended with a cliffhanger, where Katie ends up telling Matt about the toxic environment the girls created, so it’s no shocker that Matt has to address the situation!
The episode opens with Kit and Victoria taking a stroll while gossiping about how “disgusting” the new women are, when they pass by Ryan and Brittany, two of the new girls. You can only imagine how much tension there was while the girls passed one another (we can thank the producers for that AWKWARD one).
Poor Brittany is still affected by the rumor of her being an escort (who wouldn’t be?!?), and tells the camera that “[she] wouldn’t wish this on anyone.” Thanks to Katie, hopefully Matt will take care of the situation.
The rose ceremony approaches, and Matt decides to address the group about the “mob mentality” that’s occurring at the house. He even brings up the “rumors that were floating around that could potentially ruin someone’s life.” The cameras immediately cut to Anna’s guilty face, further exposing her malicious rumor. Anna is SO guilty! In an interview with the camera, Anna claims, “It’s me. Like everyone knew it was me.” Fortunately, none of the girls presumed that it was Katie who shed light on the whole situation.
Matt decides to grab Brittany first, although it’s unclear if he even knew the rumor was about her. On the one-on-one chat, Brittany opens up and tells the whole story of what happened. She tearfully says, “This sucks because this is on national TV. Like, my mom watches this show.” This is NOT what she signed up for! Matt is very endearing in response to her comments. He expresses how sorry he is and claims, “we have to create a comfortable environment for everybody.” (AHEM, Anna, this is your cue to leave).
Next, Matt and Anna end up talking, and we see a completely different side of her. She went from confidently and gladly spreading major rumors to anyone she encountered to acting ashamed and coy (seems a bit two-faced to me). During their chat, Anna owns up to it and says she feels terrible. Matt has ZERO time to waste and expresses how he has a responsibility to the other girls. Bye-bye Anna!
The rest of the “OG” girls start to realize their wrong ways (that or, they don’t want to end up like Anna. You decide). And the apology tour begins! Kit goes on to say, “From now on, I will do my very best to make it better.” Even Victoria starts apologizing to the girls, although we know Victoria is NEVER sorry for anything! Clearly, even Victoria is scared! The newer girls seem skeptical of all the apologies, and Ryan expresses, in a one-on-one chat with Matt, how rude Victoria has been! Finally, someone calls her out!!
Matt grabs Victoria only for her to sit there silently. (Screams GUILTY, to me) She begins whining to the camera and says “Lit-er-ly everything was going fine.” As the rose ceremony comes to an end, the moment we have all been waiting for occurs. BYE BYE VICTORIA and your negative energy!
She leaves with the final words, “Like I brought so many people joy.” (Way to end it, Bachelor producers!) The girls toast to new beginnings, and that’s the end of the rose ceremony.
The first one-on-one goes to Rachael, and it’s the date of any shop-a-holic’s dreams! Rachael spends the day with Matt and his dear friend Ty Hunter as she tries on dress after dress. Matt ends the day part of the date by handing her a pair of heels, but not just any heels: LOUBOUTINS! Way to make the other girls jealous. Rachel excitedly says, “I’ve never been treated like an actual princess like this.” She ends up walking back into the hotel to the room full of the other girls carrying her many bags (great job again Producers). I have to admit I had hoped for a more intimate date between the two to see if their connection is strong.
During the nighttime portion of the date, Rachael arrives in a stunning blue dress that Matt had picked out. She expresses how she’s never been in love, similar to Matt, and how she lacks confidence a lot of the time. He appreciates her genuine presence, and says, “You’re so subtle.” Racheal then states how she is already falling in love with him (IDK if that’s subtle, but we will let it slide). Matt also agrees, reassuring her of his feelings and gives her a rose.
The group date includes everyone but Rachael and Kit, meaning Kit gets the second one-on-one. The group date takes place on a farm, where the women are milking goats, collecting eggs, and even shoveling animal droppings. MJ seems to make a scene at the group date by overreacting, and the other girls are not happy about it. They see through her theatrics and that she wants more attention from Matt.
While Pieper is doing her interview on the group date, Matt swoops in and plants one on her. They continue to make out, and the other girls are uncomfortable and jealous.
On the night time part of the date, Matt has great conversations with Chelsea (whom he pulls first). He later talks to Abigail, who expresses her desire for a family in the future but expresses that there is a possibility her children could be deaf. She also talks about how her dad walked out on her, something Matt can relate to. Abigail is such a sweetheart, and Matt assures her of how much he admires her strength.
During a conversation with MJ, Matt expresses how her name came up in other conversations about her being “antagonistic.” She is shocked by the allegations and claims to “lead by example,” which we know is false. MJ discovers that it was Jessenia who put her character on the line. The night ends with Abigail getting the rose, and nothing is resolved between Jessenia and MJ.
Kit’s one-on-one was a simple date in the kitchen. She seems to love the cooking themed date, but the whole thing seems a bit odd to me. She seems like a child compared to Matt. Somehow Kit manages to express how she’s already falling for him and secures her rose.
The ladies are all in the hotel lobby, ready for the rose ceremony when Chris Harrison knocks on the door. In a plea to work things out with MJ and Jessenia, Matt has requested to see them both. In a very overly dramatic montage, we see the girls arrive with one rose between them. MJ and Jessenia already start throwing punches at each other before Matt even arrives. MJ begins, “you should be embarrassed because we are here because of your actions right now.” Jessenia goes on to explain how MJ has three personalities, and the two go back and forth.
The show ends on a cliffhanger with Matt just arriving. We will have to see who gets the rose and who stays and who goes!
