The Rundown on Nessa Barrett

This name is controversial to say the least

by GIOVANNA TUMMINELLO ★ OCTOBER 15, 2021

If you don’t know Nessa Barrett, the TikTok star/infamous ex-girlfriend of Josh Richards turned musician, you must be living under a rock. Nessa has made a HUGE name for herself over the past year or so, and is involved in tons of drama. She's a drama queen, to say the least. First things first, before we dive into things, let’s debrief all the controversy and personal highlights that follow the rising singer-songwriter.

Dated Tik Tok Star Josh Richards:

I will admit I was a huge fan of this couple (I mean, weren’t we all?), so when they announced their breakup back in June of 2020, I was crushed. They claimed that they were just in too serious of a relationship for the young age they were at and needed to take time apart to mature. It makes sense, right? But like so many young relationships this couple remained on and off for the next year or so.

Kissed Chase Hudson A.K.A Lil Huddy:

This was probably the first scandal that Nessa was involved in, giving her the reputation of being problematic. If America's sweetheart Charli D'Amelio's ex-boyfriend was not involved, this probably wouldn’t have been as big of a deal. Nessa had been broken up with Josh Richards at this point and Chase had been broken up with Charli, but it was just a violation of girl and bro code for sure. It was “just a kiss” (they claim), but they are in *way* too big of a spotlight to be going behind their exs’ backs doing that. Like, come on--did they really think they could get away with that? It is safe to say Charli and Nessa are not friends anymore.

Started Her Music Career:

On July 31st, 2020 Nessa dropped her first song “Pain.” The lyrics definitely tell us this was about her breakup with Josh and made us all feel for the heartbroken girl. Lucky for me, this came out not long before my own breakup, so I can confirm this is a great late-night cry song. (Her voice is actually bomb too.) Of course, there are always haters, but a lot of people were surprised with how well she could sing. She released another single called “If You Love Me” after “Pain” as well as a collab with Jaden Hossler called “La Di Die.” Now, she just dropped her first EP, “Pretty Poison.” In the EP, Nessa tells the story of everything she has been through over the past year and requests that listeners listen in the order of the song list so they can understand the story she is telling. The lyrics touch upon mental health, toxic relationships, and finding happiness. If you are looking for some songs to scream-sing in the car, go give a listen to the EP. It is sure not to disappoint.

Started Dating her Ex’s Best Friend:

This left us all SHOOK, to say the least. I am pretty up to date with Tik Tok drama, but even I did *not* see this one coming. Nessa and Josh finally called it quits back in March of 2021, but not long after, Nessa was spotted holding hands with Josh’s best friend, Jaden Hossler (Um, weird.). They later confirmed that they were in fact together and were the “happiest they’ve ever been.” They are still currently dating and are not shy to show their love for each other on TikTok and Instagram. They are super supportive of each other's singing careers and seem to make each other really happy. Not the best look for them going into the relationship, but I guess we’ll never know the full story--after all, there are ALWAYS two sides.

Nessa Barett is just a nineteen-year-old girl dealing with the same stuff we all go through, except with millions of followers watching her every move. I am sure the controversy with her is far from over, but until the next scandal, go listen to her music and check out her social media!
