UGirl Holiday Gift Guide: Friends

This is basically just my holiday wishlist.

by CHARLIE WENIG ★ DECEMBER 8, 2020

Gift-giving is always one of my favorite parts of the holidays. Seeing your loved one’s reaction as they open the gift that you so elegantly stressed over for weeks prior is unmatchable. Every year I tell myself to start looking for gifts early, in hopes that I can find something that is equally creative and useful. However, this plan is usually never executed in the way I was expecting. Thus, I present to you: a gift guide for your friends, or honestly whoever you want, so that you do not have to experience the holiday stress of finding the perfect gift!

First up, you guessed it, candles. Candles always seem to make an appearance on various gift guides, but I’ve found a brand that makes candles for literally any occasion. MokaJune has found a way to embody scents that are so specific they can describe any scenario. My favorite? “Girl You Need to Calm the F Down,” and yes, that is the name of the candle. Not only does MokaJune carry candles perfect for friends, moms, brides-to-be, etc., they also carry a line of horoscope themed candles. While I am no expert on star signs and astrology, receiving a candle fit to your horoscope would be extra personal and special. Bottom line, who wouldn’t want to receive a candle as a gift?

Next up, the coveted gift guide jewelry appearance, rings. For some reason, I’ve always wanted to be one of those girls who wear rings as a part of my everyday jewelry. However, I’ve found it difficult to find rings that are affordable and don’t turn copper after one wash in the shower. Giving rings, or any type of jewelry, as a gift can be totally customizable as the styles available are practically endless. NYC Sterling makes super blingy and affordable rings that are high quality and will last a lifetime. For something a bit more customizable, Adina’s Jewels has a wide range of personalized rings available, and while these pieces can be a bit on the pricier side, giving the gift of something specifically made for a loved one is always extra special.

Even though this holiday season is burdened with a pandemic, finding ways to bring small joys into everyday life is so important. For example, wearing super stylish masks. Colorful and/or patterned masks make great stocking stuffers and can be very customizable towards the person receiving your gift. Amazon has a selection of colorful and unique masks made out of silk, for something extra elegant. A mask that I will definitely be caving in to buy is Altalun’s cashmere face mask, for something extra soft and cozy. And finally, because color coordination is key, Revolve has amazing selections of matching masks and scrunchie packs. Giving a mask or two as a gift is a great way to encourage your loved ones to stay safe and stay masked up!

I feel like slippers are always a must on my holiday list. If I didn’t own a pair of slippers to walk around my dorm in, I’d go insane. Slippers are the perfect gift for a loved one who is about to go to college or begin a transition into a new chapter of their lives. Slippers also definitely fit the “work from home” vibe. I’ve been loving the UGG platform slippers but you can never go wrong with a simple pair of chestnut UGGs. Urban Outfitters always kills it with their slipper game and this year, tie-dye slippers. Do I need to say more? Slippers are essential for the holidays and giving a pair is guaranteed to make anyone smile.

Following the trend of everyday comfort, giving loungewear as a gift can never go wrong. Who doesn’t need another pair of sweatpants? But seriously, given the circumstances that another lockdown might be approaching us, you may as well quarantine in style. My first recommendation? Three words. Sherpa lined sweatpants. I cannot name one person who wouldn’t be thrilled to receive a pair of probably the softest things known to man. Obviously, Urban Outfitters stays killing it with their tie-dye sweatsuits, and you can never go wrong with the endless selection of affordable loungewear pieces from Princess Polly. Needless to say, loungewear is the perfect gift to give your friends this holiday season.

Claw clips are all the rage at the moment and I have to say I have also fallen into the addiction of buying almost every single pattern. I cannot rave about these clips enough, they hold your hair up perfectly and add something a bit more stylish to your outfit. I could be wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, yet, I have convinced myself that when I put in a claw clip, my outfit jumps up ten notches. Whether that is true or not is debatable but needless to say, you need a claw clip, or at least, you need to give your friend a claw clip. Have no idea what I’m talking about? Amazon carries the blueprint for basic claw clips if you're looking to start out with a simple accessory. Want to dive right into the world of fancy clips? ASOS has you covered. Not to mention, these clips are always extremely affordable. However, my favorite place to search for these coveted clips is on Etsy. Here, you're guaranteed to find the perfect color and size, making this gift even more customizable. If you're going to take away one gift from this perfectly crafted list, it’s this one.
