Putting our phone addictions to good use

by JESSICA STERN ★ OCTOBER 26, 2019

As college students, we all know the importance of taking our phones everywhere. Even though we use our cellphones every single day, we sometimes don’t always use the resources as much as we should. Well, there is no need to fear. Download these six apps and learn how much you’ve been missing out on as a ‘Cuse student and how they can help make our lives SO much easier.

GET:

As Syracuse students, this is essential. GET is an application that connects to your Syracuse student ID card and allows you to monitor your spending and see your balance left on your card. You can add money to your Food account or Plus account, view your spending history on exactly what you’ve purchased in the past, and see how many meal swipes you have left in the week.

GoodUncle:

If you haven’t heard of GoodUncle, you’ve seriously been missing out. GoodUncle is a food delivery service located on certain college campuses, and Syracuse is lucky enough to be one of them! They have an entire menu of pre-made meals that get delivered right to your dorm and take you back to your favorite family dinners at home. With so many meals to choose from, you could try a new dish each night! For starters, you could never go wrong with the Penne Alla Vodka or California Grain Bowl with chicken.

Grubhub:

For all those times you’ve been craving food from a restaurant but don’t feel like walking or ubering, GrubHub is your new best friend. With an easy click of a few buttons, you can have your favorite meals from any local restaurant delivered before you know it! GrubHub also has a feature that connects to on-campus locations such as Bird Library Pages Cafe, the Kimmel Food Court, and even the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center, which allow you to place orders for pickup!

Instacart:

We all know the struggle of starving in our dorms, but when we go to the fridge, we realize there is nothing inside for us to eat. Well, InstaCart is here to save the day. This app allows you to choose any local grocery store in the area and choose your groceries from their selections to be delivered directly to you. Whether you need a single avocado, or an entire array of food for a dinner party, InstaCart can deliver your groceries in no time!

Rakuten Ebates:

As college students, we are guilty of doing a LOT of online shopping. Whether it be from Amazon or any big department store sites, the money can start to add up. However, Rakuten is a way to benefit from all of this spending. Rakuten is a site that allows you to look up popular, online stores, and get money back from buying from them. Yes, you heard correctly. YOU get PAID for buying things! When on the app, it will allow you to look up the site, redirect you through the Rakuten system, and then you can shop and purchase normally! The stores will show you the percentage cashback you will receive, and then you’ll get a check in the mail ready to be used to spend some more!

GoPuff:

For all those times you’ve craved snacks but were too lazy to leave the dorm, know that you’re not alone. But now you’re in luck! GoPuff can satisfy those cravings for when it's late at night, and you just wish for Bagel Bites to be delivered to you immediately. Many Syracuse students use this app as another delivery service created for the absolute necessities- good eats and room essentials. They have an array of products necessary ranging from pints of ice cream to shampoo and conditioner, all accessible with the press of a button. What could be better?
